The present disclosure provides a mirror device comprising a reflector plate having a rear face and a reflective front face, and a core attached to the rear surface of the reflector plate. The core comprises a first plate and a second plate, the first plate being stacked on the second plate, wherein the first plate and second plate are each monolithic and comprise a glass or ceramic. The mirror device further comprises a plurality of first holes formed in the first plate, each first hole formed through the entire thickness of the first plate, and a plurality of second holes formed in the second plate, each second hole formed through the entire thickness of the second plate, where a mean width of the first holes is less than a mean width of the second holes.

Abstract

An automated screening method for detecting abnormalities in a sample. The method includes steps of staining a sample with a histologic or cytologic stain for transmission light microscopy to provide a stained sample; exposing the stained sample to a plurality of differentially-labeled biomarkers, wherein each of the biomarkers is labeled with a distinct transmission stain or fluorescence probe; at a first location, generating at least one multi-spectral image of the stained sample using signals obtained from the plurality of differentially-labeled biomarkers and the histologic or cytologic stain; and automatically determining whether the first location requires further pathologist review or interpretation.

Abstract

A fiber intensity reducer comprises a guided system fiber including a core and an outer cladding layer, an unguided fiber intensity reducing (FIR) section including a first fiber “end cap fiber” having a first end and a second end attached at its first end to the system fiber. A bond region is between the first end of the first fiber and the system fiber. The FIR section provides a softening point of at least 700° C. throughout and provides a sufficient transverse dimension along its entire length so that a beam of radiation received from the system fiber expanding therein avoids an interface with the air along its entire length. In one arrangement, the FIR section includes an outer capillary on the end cap fiber, wherein the capillary and the end cap fiber provide refractive index matching.
