Abstract

A process for tufting a brush comprising a bristle carrier (10) provides that a thickening part (44) is received in a cluster of bristles (50) folded in a U-shaped form. The cluster of bristles (50) is pushed with its end thickened in this way into a hole (48). The peripheral edge (60) is then deformed to form an undercut, and the cross section of the hole (48) is reduced by at least 70% of the cross section of the thickening part (44). The thickening part (44) has the effect that the cluster of bristles (50) can no longer be pulled out of the hole (48). A brush-tufting device for carrying out the process is also described.

Abstract

The invention relates to a carrier body (20) for a bristle insert (10), which is formed from two wire portions twisted together, the carrier body (20) comprising a guide opening (28), the cross-section of which is larger than the cross-section of the twisted wire of the bristle insert (10) to be attached to the carrier body (20), and an embedding surface (30), which is accessible in a direction lateral to the longitudinal direction of the guide opening (28), in particular perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the guide opening. The invention further relates to a brush, comprising a carrier body (20) of this type and comprising a bristle insert (10), which is fastened in the carrier body (20), the bristle insert (10) comprising two wire portions twisted together, which clamp a plurality of bristles between said wire portions in a bristle section (12) and form an anchoring section (14) in a section free of bristles, which anchoring section is received in the carrier body (20) and fastened there, characterized in that the anchoring section (14) comprises a bending section (16; 17), in which the anchoring section runs in at least one direction deviating from the longitudinal direction, and that the anchoring section (14) is embedded in the material of the carrier body (20) in such a way that more than 50% of the cross-section of the anchoring section (14) is below the level of the embedding surface (30). Finally, the invention relates to a method for producing a brush of this type.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for mechanically sharpening bristles for brushes, in particular toothbrushes, by grinding, comprising the following steps: a) holding bristle clusters (12) in a cluster holder (18) such that the ratio (L/l) of the exposed length (L) of the bristle cluster, measured from the holder to exposed end to be sharpened, to the length (l) of the conical point of the bristles that is to be created is greater than or equal to 3, and b) grinding the bristle ends (24) on the first exposed end. The invention further relates to a grinding device for mechanically sharpening bristles for brushes, wherein the cluster holder is designed to have a holding unit which enables a holding, in particular a clamping, of at least one bristle cluster at different locations of the bristle cluster over the length thereof, and a displacing of the bristle cluster into a non-holding, in particular non-clamping, position of the cluster holder, relative to the cluster holder.

Abstract

A bristle carrier injection moulding device for injection moulding a bristle carrier for a brush, said bristle carrier having openings into which bristle bundles are stuffed, comprises a first and a second injection mould half (72, 74), which, in the closed state, delimit between one another at least one cavity to be filled with liquid plastic imaging a bristle carrier, wherein the first mould half (72) has a first surface forming the rear side of the bristle carrier and the second mould half (74) has a second surface forming the front side of the bristle carrier. Protrusions originating from the first and/or second surface (88, 96, 112, 114) are present for forming the openings. The cross section of the protrusion (88, 114) of an opening at the transition of the first surface (82) to the adjoining protrusion (8, 114) is different from the cross section of the protrusion (96, 112) associated with the same opening at the transition of the second surface (84) to the associated protrusion (96, 112), i.e a different cross-sectional shape is provided or a different number of cross sections, because the protrusion branches apart. Abstract

In a method and a device for producing brushes (10), bunches of bristles (16) are removed sequentially from a bristle store (44) in which the bristles are packed parallel. The removed bunches of bristles (16) are transported by means of a transport device (18) to a base part (12) of the brush (10). From the rear face of the base part (12) the bunches of bristles (16) are forced sequentially into assigned openings (14) in the base part, wherein between the transport device (18) and the rear face of the base part (12) a guide plate having deflecting channels is provided, through which deflecting channels the bunches of bristles (16) are forced into the opening (14) in the base part (12). Subsequently the bunches of bristles (16) are fastened to the base part (12) without anchoring.

Abstract

A method for operating a bristle‑cluster‑separating apparatus makes provision for the cluster remover (22) to be coupled to a drive (24) and for the drive to be moved at such a speed as to achieve a frequency of at least 1100 cycles/minute for the cluster removers (22) moving back and forth. The speed of the groove (32) for receiving the bristle clusters and the transfer region between the groove (32) and the bristle reservoir (14) are selected such that the residence time of the groove (32) in the transfer region per cycle is greater than 10 miliseconds, preferably 12 milliseconds. A description is also given of a bristle‑cluster‑separating apparatus.

Abstract

A transportation device in a brush production machine, in particular a brush tufting machine, has a holder (30) for a plurality of brush parts (28) or bristle receptacles which are to be processed in succession. A drive motor (36) in the form of a servomotor moves the holder (30) in increments, wherein the incremental movement is achieved by a step-by-step motion linkage (34). The invention also provides a method for transporting brush parts or bristle receptacles.

Abstract

A process for producing brushes by means of an apparatus comprises the following steps: providing either at least one prefabricated base part (14) to which clusters of bristles (16) are fastened and which forms a portion of the finished brush, where a separate supportive layer (30) is applied to the back of the base part (14), or at least one prefabricated base part (14) which is formed by insert moulding a plurality of clusters of bristles (16) with bristle ends which have been fused together beforehand, feeding and positioning the base part (14) covered with bristles to and in an injection mould, wherein, in a cavity (46) of a mould half of the injection mould, the edge of each base part (14) rests on the edge (50) of an opening (48) starting from the associated cavity (46), and the clusters of bristles (16) protrude into the opening (48), and moulding a brush portion onto the back of the base part. Also described is an apparatus for producing brushes.

Abstract

A bristle support is produced from thermoplastic plastics material, having through holes and a peripheral edge surrounding said holes. Brush elements such as bristles, bundles of bristles, cleaning elements made of elastomer material and natural fibres are then fastened in the holes of the bristle support. Furthermore a cover part as a component of a brush body made of thermoplastic plastics material is formed and provided with a mounting region for the bristle support and with sacrificial structures formed in the mounting region and a connecting edge surrounding the mounting region. The peripheral edge of the bristle support and the sacrificial structures as well as the connecting edge of the cover part are then plasticised by heating. Then the bristle support and the cover part are pressed against one another, and the plasticised peripheral edge of the bristle support is welded to the plasticised connecting edge of the cover part. The plasticised material of the sacrificial structures flows into the volume remaining between the bristle support and the cover part and surrounded by the connecting edge, said plasticised material at least substantially filling said volume.

Abstract

An injection molding tool is used to produce plastic parts such as toothbrush bodies or razor handles, for example. The tool has a stationary center mold block and a pair of outer mold blocks. The center mold block has two parallel opposed molding faces joined by two parallel opposed side faces extending perpendicular to the molding faces. The molding faces have parallel partial mold cavities formed therein and the outer mold blocks each are associated with one mold face of the center mold block and each have a molding face with parallel partial mold cavities formed therein which together with corresponding partial mold cavities of the associated mold face of the center mold block form complete mold cavities. Holders are indexed alongside the peripheral faces and around corners formed between the peripheral faces to hold and transport molded parts alongside the peripheral faces of the center mold block.
