Abstract

An automotive seat has a self-folding armrest to facilitate automated and complete folding of the armrest upon folding the seat. As such, at least one armrest is pivotally coupled to one side of the backrest, wherein the at least one armrest has a bottom surface. The seat comprises at least one guiding member adapted to be coupled to each side of a seat bottom where there is an armrest. The guiding member comprises an upper surface, such that folding of the backrest towards the seat bottom results in sliding of the bottom surface of the armrest over the upper surface of the guiding member. This facilitates automated folding of the armrest with respect to the backrest, without requiring any additional mechanism, and restricting contact of the armrest with a floor of the vehicle.

Abstract

An occupant support includes a seat bottom, a seat back, and a cam. The seat bottom includes a side frame member. The seat back includes a headrest configured to fold about a headrest fold axis. The side frame member is rotatably coupled to the seat back and configured to rotate relative to the seat back about a side frame rotation axis. The cam is coupled to the side frame member and coupled to the headrest such that rotation of the cam causes the headrest to rotate about the headrest fold axis. Rotation of the cam about the side frame rotation axis relative to the seat back causes the cam to pull a connecting member which causes the headrest to rotate about the headrest fold axis to a folded position. The rotation of the headrest about the headrest fold axis occurs during the occupant support folding movement.

Abstract

A seatbelt buckle assembly is configured for attachment to a vehicle seat frame in a manner that permits a strap of the assembly to pass through narrow openings or gaps of the seat frame before a fastener is used for the attachment. A collar having a flange and a sleeve can be used to retain other buckle assembly components to the strap without the aid of the fastener. The assembly is particularly useful with fold-flat seats where the seatbelt buckle must fold together with the seat back and then be returned to a use position when the seat is unfolded.

Abstract

A portable armrest is manually convertible between a deployed configuration and a folded configuration and includes a lap portion, an arm portion, and a support portion. The support portion vertically spaces the arm portion from the lap portion when the lap portion is positioned on the lap of a seated user with the armrest in a deployed configuration, and the weight of an extended arm of the user is transferred to the lap when the arm is rested on the arm portion. The armrest is formed as a segmented panel including a plurality of rigid segments interconnected into a unitary piece by flexible joints along the perimeter of each segment. The deployed armrest enables users to relax their extended arms while bringing a handheld device into viewing range without lowering their heads. The armrest can be folded into a small packaging space for portability.

Abstract

A vehicle seat height adjuster is configured to allow for a vertically oriented motor and spindle system. A ring-shaped lift plate allows the motor and spindles to pass through the lift plate, thereby allowing the lift plate to travel closer to the vehicle floor while eliminating the need for levered mechanical armature systems and complex transmission systems that convert motor rotation about a horizontal axis to vertical seat movement. The vehicle seat adjuster also offers pure vertical movement in the direction of the motor axis and has a relatively small footprint due in part to most of the components being located within a perimeter of the lift plate when retracted.

Abstract

A vehicle seat bottom comprises a seat cushion support pan including first and second arms respectively coupled to first and second lateral brackets of a seat bottom support frame by a pair of first and second fastening devices that extend in opposing transverse directions from the first and second lateral brackets. Each of the arms of the seat cushion support pan includes a ramped portion at a distal end thereof extending to a slot. Each of the fastening devices includes a transverse neck terminating in a head. In assembly, the heads of the first and second fastening devices snap through the slots in the first and second arms of the seat cushion support pan, and chamfered surfaces of the necks of the first and second fastening devices guide rotation of the seat cushion support pan around a pivot axis defined by the necks of the first and second fastening devices.

Abstract

A vehicle seat includes a thermal comfort module installed in a recess of a foam cushion beneath a trim cover. The thermal comfort module includes an air duct, a thermoelectric device, a heat sink extending inside the air duct from the thermoelectric device, and an air mover that causes air to flow from the passenger cabin, through the seating surface, along the air duct and heat sink, and back out of the seat. In a seat cooling mode, the air flowing along air duct absorbs heat from one side of the thermoelectric device via the heat sink while the opposite side of the thermoelectric device absorbs heat from the trim cover via thermal conduction. The thickness of a foam cushion can be made greatest where most needed, such as at the rear portion of the seat bottom.
