Abstract

The present invention relates to a centrifuge (10) and to a method for preventing ignition of combustible temperature-control media in centrifuges (10), more particularly after a crash of the centrifuge rotor. According to the invention, it is monitored whether the pressure in the evaporator (26) lies below a predefined minimum pressure and/or above a predefined maximum pressure. Measures to prevent ignition of the temperature-control medium can be taken in a targeted manner. Specifically, if the pressure lies below a minimum pressure, it can be assumed that there is either a leak or a crash. A leak leads to a slow release of combustible temperature-control medium, and a crash leads to a sudden release of combustible temperature-control medium. If the pressure lies above the maximum pressure, there is the risk that a large amount of combustible temperature-control medium is present in the evaporator, which combustible temperature-control medium could be ignited in the event of a crash.

Abstract

The invention relates to a centrifuge (10) and to a method for preventing ignition of combustible temperature control media in centrifuges (10) after a crash of the centrifuge rotor, wherein ignition is prevented by releasing a protective gas in the case of a crash. More precisely, the released protective gas forms a flow which displaces the oxygen, distributes the exiting temperature control medium and fundamentally changes the current ratio of the concentration of oxygen to temperature control medium such that both inside and outside the centrifuge (10) no ignition can take place. As a result, even combustible temperature control media can be used without safety concerns in the context of temperature control of centrifuges (10).

Abstract

The present invention relates to a centrifuge (10) with a status indicator (27). The status indicator (27) according to the invention is easily perceivable, even from relatively large distances of up to 10 m, and is also very easily distinguishable in relation to the status indicators (27) of other centrifuges (10). By way of the status indicator (27), numerous different statuses can be encoded to be easily identifiable by a user. Here, the function of a sight glass (26) is advantageously combined with the status indicator (27), and so no additional elements have to be provided, making the status indicator (27) very cost effective. However, in addition or as an alternative to the sight glass function, use can also be made of electronic identification means in order to directly monitor the functions of the centrifuge (10).

The present invention relates to a method for coating a solid support which is suitable for being used in cell culture applications. The method comprises a step in which a solution of a carrier protein, which comprises attached thereto or as a part of its amino acid sequence at least one cell function- modulating peptide sequence, is heated to at least 50°C and incubated same under conditions which result in the formation of soluble carrier protein aggregates comprising between 2 and 1000 protein molecules. Subsequently, the protein aggregates are brought into contact with the solid support under conditions that allow for the non-covalent adsorption of the aggregates to the support. The invention also relates to a coated solid support having non-covalently adsorbed on its surface at least one of the above-mentioned aggregate of carrier proteins aggregates.

Abstract

For the simplified, intuitive and reliable operation of laboratory apparatuses, it is proposed that the laboratory apparatus be equipped with a control device comprising a touch-sensitive display unit (100), wherein the display unit (100) is configured to display a plurality of control elements (111, 112, 113 etc), which are assigned to different control functions of the laboratory apparatus, wherein the control elements are embodied (11 1, 112, 1 13 etc) to set parameters (121, 122, 123) of the control functions. At the same time, at least two of the control elements (111,112, 113, 114) are assigned to the same control function and embodied differently for setting the same parameter (121) of this control function. Therefore, the user is always offered a plurality of ways for setting a parameter or for operating the apparatus, such as, for example, for setting the rotational speed of a centrifuge. The touch- sensitive display unit is preferably embodied as a multi-touch screen, which is also able to recognise finger movements of the user, so-called gestures, as operator commands.
