Abstract
A flood barrier to protect an area of land from floodwaters, the flood barrier having a waterside to be placed adjacent a body of water and a protected side opposing the waterside, the flood barrier comprising a plurality of supports spaced apart from one another; at least one intermediate barrier section arrangeable to be supported to extend between a pair of neighbouring supports, the intermediate barrier section comprising at least a first beam and second beam, each beam being installable to span between said pair of neighbouring supports, the first beam being the beam which is closest to the ground when the barrier is erected, the first and each further beam being stacked one above the other when assembled, to form a continuous barrier surface, wherein said first beam has first and second ends and top and bottom elongate sides, the first end being adjacent one of the pair of neighbouring supports and the second end being adjacent the other of the pair of neighbouring supports when erected, the flood barrier further comprising a first compression means operable to lock the first beam in a predetermined position relative to the pair of neighbouring supports, said first compression means being operable to provide a compressive force directed at least in a direction coplanar with a plane running between the top and bottom elongate sides of the first beam and towards the ground when assembled.

Abstract
A locking device for a leaf pivotally mounted in a frame, the leaf having a leading face, a trailing face, a bottom edge and side edges, and being pivotally moveable relative to the frame between an open position and a closed position, the locking device comprising at least a first cam rotatable between an unlocked condition and a locked condition, the plane of rotation of the cam being perpendicular to the plane of the leaf when in the closed position, wherein in the locked condition the cam is engageable with a cam engaging surface on the leaf or the frame, engagement of the cam with the cam engaging surface preventing the leaf from moving away from the closed position.

Abstract
The flood protection device (2) is a door (4), patio door, window, french window, garage door or similar solution for closing apertures in buildings offering flood protection up to a predetermined height that includes a number of conduits (6) which may be installed within a wall, a window, door or any other barrier in the outer perimeter of a building and conduits (6) that extend through the barrier to allow water to enter into the building above the predetermined height. The conduits (6) are sited at a height at or below the height at which the force exerted upon the barrier by external water is equal to the maximum force which the barrier can withstand without undergoing failure. The flood protection device (29 may be fitted with a visual and audible internal indicator (40) and locking or disabling mechanism to prevent the device being opened in the presence of flood water.
