Abstract

Inside structure to insert into a tank in order to form a reactor for waste water treatment. The structure is obtained by assembling two matching modular elements or "walls". Each element comprises planar portions which are brought into abutment with each other. Each element comprises the shell of a half inverted cone, the two shells of the two elements matching so that a separation chamber in the form of an inverted truncated cone is formed when the two elements are assembled. The two elements can form other chambers or pipes when they are assembled, such as an inlet chamber into which a strainer basket can be inserted, or an air-lift recirculation pipe for instance. Together the two elements provide the functional components essential to the functioning of a reactor in a compact volume, and they can be inserted in a tank in order to construct a reactor. The reactor can be used to treat water by nitrification and denitrification. In an alternate embodiment, the two elements comprise a quarter cone each, instead of a half cone. When they are assembled, they form a half cone, which is fixed to a surface of the tank in which it is inserted. In the last embodiment, there is only a single modular element, which is a quarter cone, and can be inserted in the corner of a rectangular tank in order to form an inside structure.
