The invention relates to an alloy for production of a thin-walled steel component, in particular of an engine component, particularly preferably of a piston for an internal combustion engine, consisting of the alloy elements carbon from 0.17 wt% to 0.23 wt%, silicon from 0.001 wt% to 0.35 wt%, manganese from 0.001 wt% to 0.80 wt%, phosphorous from 0.001 wt% to 0.025 wt%, sulfur from 0.001 wt% to 0.020 wt%, chromium from 1.70 wt% to 3.30 wt%, molybdenum from 0.30 wt% to 0.40 wt%, nickel from 0.001 wt% to 0.80 wt%, aluminum from 0.001 wt% to 0.04 wt%, vanadium from 0.10 wt% to 0.20 wt%, niobium from 0.06 wt% to 0.08 wt% and the remainder being iron and up to 0.5 wt% unavoidable impurities, and a thin-walled steel component produced from the alloy and a method for producing said thin-walled steel component.
