Abstract
A flexible arch model (FAM) is computed to capture and parameterize the variations of the multiple real dental arches in a training set to reconstruct missing teeth in a patient's dental anatomy. Building the FAM includes acquiring multiple sets of digitized dental arches with a pair of maxillary (upper) and mandibular (lower) jaws in the right relative position and gathering a pre-defined set of landmark points on the occlusal surface of each arch all in the same order and same corresponding positions across multiple samples. The gathered vectors of landmark points are used to perform statistical modeling (e.g. Principal Component Analysis) to create a linear subspace of the feature points with the basis of principal components (when PCA is used) found during the procedure.

Abstract
A method in which a digital picture of the tip of a dental scaler tool and other uniquely identifying characteristics is used to measure the extent of wear on the tool. Unique characteristics of the dental scaler tool, such as color and shape of the grip, narrow a set of reference images to a subset of likely matching tip reference images. A digital contour of the worn tip is isolated. Characteristics of the physical shape of each available tips have been stored in a digital library of reference images. The same tip shape characteristics are developed for the tip contour that were stored for each reference image. The digital profile of the worn tip and a matching, selected reference image of the tip from a library of digitally overlaid. An accurate measurement of the extent of wear of the insert tip is made and displayed.

Abstract
Generating a crown model using a statistical method (such as k-means clustering, principal component analysis (PCA), or similar statistical methods) can result in a crown model that is missing sharpness details below the threshold of the statistical technique. A method is provided to add back the sharpness to the resulting model by combining a single full-featured example into the algorithms generating the statistical model. The end result is a crown model that is relatively simple to produce and manipulate in real time, yet maintains the anatomical sharpness of a natural tooth.

Abstract
A method for controlling a magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducer of the type used in a magnetostrictive ultrasonic dental scaler includes generating a drive signal for a resonant circuit using a full bridge synchronous class D amplifier. The electrical signal output by the resonant circuit drives an excitation coil that generates an electromagnetic field that causes the magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducer to vibrate. A feedback wire is rendered unnecessary by measuring current and voltage outputs of the resonant circuit and quadrature sampling the measured current and voltage outputs at the same sampling rate as used for the generation of the electrical signal by the resonant circuit. A pulse width modulated signal is generated from the quadrature sampled sensed current and voltage that represents a pulse train approximation of a sine wave of the drive signal for, in turn, being applied to the full bridge synchronous class D amplifier to generate the drive signal for the resonant circuit. Changes in the pulse widths of the pulse train change the amplitude of the drive signal.

Abstract
A luminescent coating is disclosed that is used to dimensionally control the curing of a photocurable agent placed in close contact with the coating. The coating is applied at the interface of structures, such as brackets and prosthetics, or may be applied directly on a curable material for use in 3D printing, at the location where bonding material is needed to be cured. The luminescent coating irradiates from its structure the curing radiations necessary to photopolymerize the resin in response to a first radiation irradiated on its structure of a different wavelength. The luminescent, in particular up-converting or phosphorescent, coating may also be used to detect an inhomogeneity of a transilluminated object such as a tooth.

Abstract
In a dental operatory system a master device coordinates the activity levels of multiple slave devices. The master device coordinates activity via a communication link with all slave devices. A communication protocol incorporates a closed system addresses scheme in which the master device learns all associated addresses of slave devices, and all slave devices learn all associated addresses of the master device. Each communication between master device and any slave device includes both the master device address and the slave device address. The master device scans all slave devices for an activity status and determines which slave device exhibits a threshold level of activity, and whether activity is increasing or decreasing. The master device passes a communication control token to the slave device to be controlled by operation of the master device.
