Abstract
The present invention is directed to methods for fertility prediction in animals, and in particular dairy cows. The methods allow detection of the likelihood of conception upon insemination of a cow based on the analysis of properties of milk of the cow, and in particular the mid-infrared (MIR) spectrum of the milk. Such methods also enable selection of cows for insemination and fertility classification of cows. Software and systems for carrying out the methods of the invention are also provided. The present invention also provides methods for deriving reference MIR spectra representative cows with good or poor likelihoods of conception upon insemination. These reference MIR spectra can be used for fertility prediction in cows to be tested.

Abstract
A method for improving the computational efficiency of estimation of Bayesian methods, such as Bayesian MCMC models, for performing genomic analysis of SNP data to estimate breeding values, Quantitative Trait Locus (QTLs), or genomic locations associated with a disease or trait. The method extends the BayesR method by using a blocked Gibbs sampling approach to estimate SNO effects comprising breaking the SNPS into non overlapping blocks of markers and sequentially processing each block according to a block ordering. Each regression coefficient in the block is then sequentially estimated, starting from a starting index. The method significantly reduces the computational time to estimate model parameters and can be applied to both single trait and multi-trait analyses.

Mitchell, Ian Robert
Abstract
The invention relates to manufacture of whey protein extracts, to infant formula and to reducing or preventing food allergy. The whey protein extract is produced from a whey protein-containing composition by contacting a whey protein-containing composition with an aqueous solution to form a sample including a soluble protein-containing component and an insoluble component; recovering the soluble protein-containing component from the sample; and acidifying the soluble protein-containing component, thereby producing the whey protein extract. Extracts produced by the method of the invention may be used in infant formula, as a dietary supplement or foodstuff.

Abstract
The invention relates to cDNA libraries obtained from Tammar wallaby (Macropus eugenii) mammary gland tissue at different times (including day 23 pregnancy, day 130 lactation, and day 260 lactation). Lactation-associated polypeptides were identified from these cDNA libraries, and bovine homologues of the wallaby proteins are also disclosed. The proteins have a range of activities including anti-apoptotic activity, pro- or anti-inflammatory activity, cathelicidin anti-microbial activity, induction of trefoil proteins (and protection of epithelial surfaces), increased cell proliferation, and induction of cell differentiation (and loss of pluripotency).
