Abstract

A garment including a breath sensor module. The breath sensor module includes a stretchable sensor configured to respond to at least one of expansion and contraction of a torso of an individual wearing the garment. The breath sensor module also may include an electronics module. The electronics module includes, for example, a processor and a haptic feedback device. In response to the processor determining that the individual's breathing meets predetermined criteria based on the response of the stretchable sensor, the haptic feedback device produces haptic feedback such that the individual is reminded to breathe. Further, the breath sensor module does not include a transmitter or a receiver configured to transmit or receive data outside of the breath sensor module. Advantageously, this allows for streamlined use, and less-intrusive reminders to the individual wearing the garment, without the complexities of signal transmission or receiving.

Abstract

The disclosure relates to a method for producing a particle foam part from foam particles for sports apparel, sports equipment or a ball using electromagnetic waves, comprising the steps of filling a mold cavity, heating the foam particles with electromagnetic waves in order to weld them, demolding, wherein a parameter characteristic of the absorption of the electromagnetic waves is monitored during the heating of the foam particles, and if this parameter changes by a predetermined amount, the heating of the foam particles is ended. This method ensures in a simple manner that the correct quantity of heat is supplied to the foam particles.

Abstract

A midsole for an article of footwear including a three-dimensional mesh including interconnected unit cells and methods of making the same. The interconnected unit cells each include a plurality of struts defining a three-dimensional shape. The interconnected unit cells are connected at nodes having a valence number defined by the number of struts connected at that node. The valence number of the nodes may vary to provide customized characteristics to zones or portions of the midsole. The plurality of interconnected unit cells may be organized in a warped cubic lattice structure. The warped cubic lattice structure and the size/shape of interconnected unit cells may vary to provide customized characteristics to zones or portions of the midsole. The three-dimensional mesh may be customized based on a biometric data profile for an individual, or group of individuals. The midsole may be manufactured using an additive manufacturing process.

Abstract

A method for determining a rotation rate of a ball used for an athletic activity comprises: sensing acceleration data for the ball using a sensor coupled to the ball, identifying a repeating portion of the sensed acceleration data, determining a time period of the repeating portion of the sensed acceleration data, determining an inverse of the time period of the repeating portion, and determining the rotation rate of the ball based on the determination of the inverse of the time period.

Abstract

Described are methods for manufacturing a plastic component, in particular a cushioning element for sports apparel, a plastic component manufactured with such methods, for example a sole or a part of a sole for a shoe, and a shoe with such a sole. The method for the manufacture of a plastic component includes loading a mold with a first material includes particles of an expanded material and fusing the surfaces of the particles by supplying energy. The energy is supplied in the form of at least one electromagnetic field.

Abstract

Articles comprises iron oxide colloidal nanocrystals arranged within chains, wherein the chains of nanocrystals are embedded within a material used to form the article or a transfer medium used to transfer a color to the article are described. The material or transfer medium includes elastic properties that allow the nanocrystals to display a temporary color determined by the strength of an external force applied to the article, and the material or transfer medium includes memory properties that cause the displayed temporary color to dissipate when the external force is removed, wherein the dissipation of the displayed temporary color is sufficiently slow as to be visually observable by an average observer's unaided eye.

Abstract

Midsoles for articles of footwear are formed of a variety of three dimensional mesh lattices. The lattices can be populated by unit cells of various base geometries. Some base geometries are structures of struts and nodes that approximate the overall shape of an implicit surface. Some base geometries are structures of struts and nodes that include struts having at least two different effective diameters. Some lattices are compound lattices that include and blend together at least two lattices populated by cells having different base geometries. Some compound lattices have a skin that includes beams extending across multiple cells at the exterior of the compound lattice.

Abstract

An inflatable ball (such as a soccer ball) may have an outer shell comprising panels. The panels may include at least one surface texture. At least a subset of the panels may include indentations in addition to the surface texture. An overall roughness volume of the outer ball surface of the inflatable ball may range between 7000 and 30000 mm3, e.g., factoring in and/or resulting from the presence of both the surface texture and the indentations.

Abstract

Apparatus, systems, and methods for tracking the location of an individual during a fitness activity are disclosed. A method of tracking a participant engaged in a fitness activity includes determining a location of the participant during the fitness activity based on data received at a portable fitness device used by the participant; determining a location of a spectator during the fitness activity based on data received at a mobile spectator device used by the spectator; from a server, sending an alert to a spectator at a spectator device during the fitness activity indicating that the participant is within a predetermined distance of the spectator; and sending an alert to the portable fitness device during the fitness activity indicating that the spectator is within a predetermined distance of the participant.
