A penetration depth of the wick end region into the wick recess is adjustable. The wick recess has a throttling segment with a reduced flow cross section, situated above the wick end region when the wick end region protrudes into the wick recess. The position of a free wick end is adjustable relative to the throttling segment to adjust the air mass flow through the wick recess and/or the flow velocity of the substance-laden substance air flow.
The invention relates to a device (1) and a method for the evaporation of volatile substances, with a substance container (12), in which a wick is inserted as capillary element, protruding by a wick end region (19) from the container. A heating device (7) comprises a heating body (8) with a wick recess (20), forming an air flow channel with an inlet opening (26) and an outlet opening (27), and in which the wick end region (19) can be received under air flow around it with a circumferential gap spacing (24) from the wick recess wall region (25). Moreover, an adjusting device is provided, by means of which the depth of penetration of the wick end region (19) into the wick recess (20) can be adjusted. According to the invention, the wick recess (20) has a throttling segment (28) with a reduced flow cross section, situated above the wick end region (19) when the wick end region (19) protrudes into the wick recess (20). By means of the adjusting device, the position of a free wick end (21) of the wick end region (19) relative to the throttling segment (28) can also be changed in order to adjust the air mass flow through the wick recess (20) and/or the flow velocity of the substance-laden substance air flow (23).

At least one wick as a capillary element is in contact with the substance to be released and at least partially in the receptacle and has a substance release region. The wick, preferably its substance release region, is assigned a heating element, preferably an electrical heating element. The wick is assigned a squeezing device with a squeezing element, by which a squeezing region of the wick can be subjected to a squeezing force and/or can be compressed, in particular for a defined short period of time and/or temporarily. A defined amount of substance, in particular at least the substance collected in the squeezing region, can be conveyed with a boost in the direction of the substance release region.

A heating element produces a substance air flow, which is enriched with substance and flows away from the device, by heating the wick-side substance dispensing area and a substantially substance-free hot air flow that flows away from the device and is warmer than the substance air flow, by heating the air surrounding the heating element. The invention relates to a device (1) and a method for dispensing volatile substances, having a housing (2), a heating device (3) and having a container (4) for the substance to be dispensed, which container (4) has a wick (5) which has a wick-side substance dispensing region (6) which is assigned to the heating device (3).
