PACKAGE FEEDBACK CONTROL SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
A method and apparatus for producing product packages comprises operating first and second feedback control loops where product package weight is averaged and used to determine one of two possible adjustments to change the product fill rate and the volume of the product. The feedback loops operate in one of a plurality of index levels. The second feedback loop seeks to preserve stability by making its own adjustments to the fill rate and volume of the product if large product package weight fluctuations are sensed. The second feedback loop can move operation to less stable index levels having wider tolerances and package weight averages based on fewer product packages.

AUTOMATED PROCESS FOR DETERMINING AMOUNT OF MEAT REMAINING ON ANIMAL CARCASS
An automated process assesses an amount of meat remaining on a trimmed animal carcass by generating image data of the carcass and processing the image data in a computer to calculate the amount of meat remaining on the carcass. The automated process can be carried out using an equation developed by counting pixels in an area of interest in images of a plurality of reference trimmed carcasses from which the remaining meat is thereafter scraped and weighed, to produce data points used to develop the equation which is then used to calculate the amount of meat remaining on a trimmed carcass as it proceeds down a processing line.

Visual recognition system includes a video camera (e.g., CMOS or CCD array), a physical visual distortion system between the camera and incoming light, a mathematical characterization of the physical distortion device, a facial recognition or other biometric recognition algorithm, and a coupling of the analyzed images to an individual's identity. The distortion system provides a singular or paired effect of occluding, blurring, segmenting, multiplying, color filtering, lensing, mirroring, or other distortive effect that render the resulting distorted image unrecognizable to an observer. The identity of the individual from which the distorted image is generated is thereafter determined by electronic comparison of the distorted image against a catalog of stored distorted images obtained from identified individuals.
