Embodiments are described for establishing a connection between a premise device and a remote user. A security message may be received from an authentication server. The security message may include an origination address of a request from an authenticated remote user. Connections may be allowed from the origination address of the authenticated remote user with the premise device. A timer may be started which counts an amount of time that the connections are allowed. Forwarding may be enabled of connection data between the premise device and the remote user. An acknowledgement message may be sent to the authentication server indicating completion of preparation of the remote access.
Automatically updating electronic devices using a push model. A set of electronic devices may be selected for an update. A first plurality of devices of the set of devices for which the update is valid may be determined in accordance with a set of rules, e.g., safety check rules or business rules, where the determining is based on stored configuration information for each of the devices. Current configuration information and accessibility information may be received for each of the first plurality of devices, and based on the received current configuration information and accessibility information and the stored configuration information, a second plurality of devices of the set of devices for which the update is valid may be determined, where the second plurality is a subset of the first plurality. The update may be applied automatically to at least some of the second plurality of devices.

System and method for providing secure connections between a point of sale (POS) system and a datacenter. Upon initiation of a support event associated with the POS system, a gateway device may determine an available block of internet protocol (IP) addresses for the merchant location, e.g., by accessing information stored in a shared storage location. The gateway device may determine a local IP address of the POS system and establish an apparent IP address of the POS system, selected from the available block of IP addresses. The gateway device may initiate a virtual private network (VPN) tunnel to the datacenter using at least a subset of the available block of IP addresses. The gateway device may securely store a descriptive document in the shared storage location identifying the available block of IP addresses for the merchant location. The gateway device may performing IP address translation during the support event.
A system to ensure compliance with data security standards. The system including a security appliance to perform multiple security functions, the security appliance in communication with a plurality of network devices, the security appliance identifying each network device from the plurality of network devices as being included in one of a first zone containing confidential data and a second zone not containing confidential data. The system including a display unit to provide information of compliance performance of the system on a secure basis. The system further including a control unit to monitor compliance performance in real-time to ensure that each network device included in the first zone containing the confidential data is compliant with data security standards regardless of the compliance of each network device included in the second zone with the data security standards.
Configuring and managing gateway devices. A gateway device may be installed at a location, such as a merchant location or home. The gateway device may manage (e.g., monitor and/or control) one or more devices at the location. For example, the gateway device may manage various fuel tank devices, point of sale devices, refrigeration devices, liquid dispensing devices, etc., at a convenience store. The gateway device may provide reported information to and receive commands from a cloud server, which may be in communication with other devices which may be used to view reported information of or control the managed devices. The cloud server may also be configured to install applications, e.g., for execution by the cloud server, the gateway device, and/or other devices. For example, the gateway device may install applications provided by the cloud server to manage the devices coupled to the gateway device.
A system to ensure compliance with data security standards for merchants that store, process, and transmit secure data, includes a security appliance having a global unit to monitor the functions of the security appliance, a logging unit to log data from network devices at the merchant's site and from other security appliance units, an integrity unit to construct maps of file systems of the network devices and to compare the constructed maps with previously constructed maps to detect differences between them, and a scanning unit to periodically scan the network to detect unrecognized devices on the network. The system further includes a display unit to provide compliance information on a secure basis, a back-end unit to automate and manage compliance-related tasks and data security events, and a control unit to monitor compliance performance in real-time and to implement required procedures to ensure compliance with data security standards.
A multiservice merchant gateway (MMG) allows point of sale terminals and other devices to be interfaced with a wide area network, thereby improving speed and service to terminal owners and users, allowing for more efficient systems on merchant premises, and also allowing the merchant to provide and/or utilize various additional features and services. Support infrastructure for configuring MMGs, managing MMGs, and providing related services are also disclosed.
