Abstract

Technologies are provided for circuit topology detection in an electric power circuit. In some embodiments, a computing device can access phasor data associated with the electric power circuit including an arrangement of switching devices and multiple phasor measurement units. The computing device also can access threshold data defining individualized zero-current threshold values for respective ones of the multiple phasor measurement units. The computing device can determine one or more zero-current branches present in the arrangement of switching devices by applying the individualized zero-current thresholds to the accessed phasor data. The computing device can further determine, based on the one or more zero-current branches a circuit topology corresponding to the arrangement of switching devices.

Abstract

Machine learning may be used to forecast an estimated time of restoration (ETR) during a service interruption. To forecast an ETR, the collection of information from the multiple sources may be provided as inputs to a machine learning model, such as a deep long-short term memory recurrent neural network, a predictive model, and/or the like. The machine learning model may be trained to optimize the temporal cost function of sustained service interruptions and forecast ETRs for service interruptions (in minutes). The machine learning model may process data/information in real-time and provide an ETR when inputs are not yet available in the repair/resolution process, and update (reforecast) the ETR in real-time as the inputs late become available.

Abstract

Methods and systems are disclosed for determining active and/or reactive power flows in a distribution line of a distribution network. The determined power flows may be linear in nature, and they may further be used to determine an overall network power flow for the distribution network. Further, the network power flow can be used to determine a voltage magnitude for any distribution bus in the distribution network. The methods and systems are capable of considering a plurality of sensitivity factors that may affect one or more distribution buses.

Abstract

Methods and systems are described for determining a distribution system's hosting capacity for distributed power generation. Hosting capacity may be assessed on a feeder-by-feeder basis. Performing a hosting capacity assessment may include randomly selecting spot load points in a feeder as candidates for installation of distributed power generation sources. The hosting capacity assessment may be repeated a number of times to ensure optimal results and to correct for any violations of system performance parameters caused by an addition of distributed power generation at a given spot load point.

Abstract

Methods and systems for evaluating economic viability of a proposed microgrid, including uncertain variables are disclosed. One or more candidate distributed energy resources can be selected for use within a proposed microgrid. An investment cost and an operation cost of the one or more candidate distributed energy resources can be determined. A cost of drawing power from a main power grid can be compared to a sum of the investment cost and the operation cost of the one or more candidate distributed energy resources. The proposed microgrid can be identified for installation when the sum of the investment cost and the operation cost is less than the cost of drawing power from the main power grid.

The pulley system has first and second side legs, an axle, a pulley and at least one guide member. The guide member can be coupled to or formed integrally with at least one of the side legs. The guide member has at least one wall extending outwardly and away from the radial direction of the pulley to act as a funnel and encourage contact between a rope, chain, cable and the like and the pulley, thereby reducing the amount of force required to pull the item.

Abstract

A compartmental transformer and a method maintenance therefore is provided. The transformer includes a first compartment housing first equipment electrically coupled to the high voltage side of the transformer and a second compartment housing second equipment electrically coupled with the low voltage side of the transformer. The transformer further includes a maintenance compartment, separate from the first and second compartments, for housing a plurality of maintenance devices used for servicing the transformer while the transformer is energized. The method includes co-locating and securing preventative maintenance devices in one secured compartment remote from a voltage at or above a level corresponding to the lower of the voltages of the primary or secondary sides of the transformer, maintaining the transformer in an energized state, opening the secured compartment, and performing preventative maintenance tasks on respective preventative maintenance devices while the transformer is maintained in the energized state.
