Abstract

Intravascular blood pumps systems and methods of use are provided. The blood pump system includes a catheter portion having a distal blood pump with a cantilevered collapsible impeller. The blood pump includes sections of increased stiffness and sections of increased flexibility. The blood pump is designed and configured to bend at a distal tip, a central section, and in a proximal catheter shaft, while maintaining stiffness in the inlet and outlet. Collectively the pump is designed and configured to maintain tip gap between the impeller and the blood conduit without requiring any structures in the blood conduit distal to the impeller assembly.

Abstract

Catheter blood pumps that include an expandable blood conduit and at least one impeller. Tension members extending from the blood conduit are associated with increasing a stiffness of an impeller region housing the impeller, thereby increasing the impeller region's resistance to deflection, and maintaining clearance for the impeller. In some cases, a tension control element is used to control a degree of tension placed on the tension members. The tension control element may be used to increase or decrease the stiffness of the impeller region and/or modulate the size of a blood inlet or outlet of the blood conduit.

Catheter blood pumps that include a pump portion with an impeller. The blood pumps include an axially extendable member with a distal end that is disposed further distally than the distal end of the impeller, and a guide member extending through the pump portion and axially moveable relative to the pump portion, the guide member inoperable axial communication with the extendable member such that axial movement of the guide member causes axial movement of the extendable member relative to the pump portion.

Abstract

Devices for moving blood within a patient, and methods of doing so. The devices can include a pump portion that includes an impeller and a housing around the impeller, as well as a fluid lumen. The impeller can be activated to cause rotation of the impeller and thereby move fluid within the fluid lumen.

IPC Classes  ?
