Abstract

A hammock shell system may comprise a hammock, a tension line, and a shell. The tension line may be secured to run above the hammock, and along the length of the hammock. The shell may be a tubular piece of fabric with openings at either end, and shaped to generally hang over the tension line, and fit around and envelop the hammock. When the two openings at the ends of the shell are closed, a layer of dead air is created between the shell and the bottom of the hammock, thereby insulating the bottom of the hammock. A shape adjustment system allows for tightening or loosening to adjust the shape and volume of the dead air space trapped between the bottom of the hammock and the shell. Such shape adjustment allows for customizing insulation properties and the temperature of the hammock. The shell may also include insulating materials.
