The present invention relates to a sealable, thermoformable, heat-shrinkable multi-layer film having a symmetrical construction around a two-ply inner layer, and having a heat-shrinkability in machine direction and in cross direction of in each case at least 20% at 93°C, the heat-shrinkability being substantially unaffected by thermoforming, and also to methods whereby the multi-layer film of the invention can be processed advantageously to heat-shrunk packaging, more particularly using specially equipped packaging machines.
B32B 27/08 - Layered products essentially comprising synthetic resin as the main or only constituent of a layer next to another layer of a specific substance of synthetic resin of a different kind
B29C 51/10 - Forming by pressure difference, e.g. vacuum
B29C 51/14 - Shaping by thermoforming, e.g. shaping sheets in matched moulds or by deep-drawingApparatus therefor using multilayered preforms or sheets
B65B 47/02 - Apparatus or devices for forming pockets or receptacles in or from sheets, blanks, or webs, comprising essentially a die into which the material is pressed or a folding die through which the material is moved with means for heating the material prior to forming
B65B 9/04 - Enclosing successive articles, or quantities of material, between opposed webs one or both webs being formed with pockets for the reception of the articles, or of the quantities of material

The present invention relates to a packaging (1) which is suitable for microwaves, is made from plastic film and comprises a packaging recess (2), in which a packaged item (5) is introduced, and a closure film (6) which is sealed on the edge (8) of the packaging recess (2) along a sealed seam (3), wherein the edge (8) has a region (4) which is shaped as a channel (7), is initially closed, and through which steam can escape when the packaged item (5) is heated after it has been opened along a weakening line (10). Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for heating the packaged item in the packaging according to the invention.
B65D 81/34 - Containers, packaging elements, or packages, for contents presenting particular transport or storage problems, or adapted to be used for non-packaging purposes after removal of contents for packaging foodstuffs intended to be cooked or heated within the package
