Abstract

A cable gland for sealing around a cable or other elongate element is disclosed. The gland includes a seal (12) that goes over the cable and presses against the cable to form a seal. There is also a gripping portion (18) that has fingers (20) which move radially inwards towards the cable so as to apply a radially inwards force on the seal. There are mutually threaded body portions (22, 24) that engage each other and contain the other components with one body portion having an inclined surface (34) that the fingers of the gripping portion engage. As the body portions move towards each other, the fingers move down the inclined surface and press on the seal. There is also an insert (48) that is added if the gland is to be used on a small cable. The insert sits against the inclined surface and has its own inclined surface (54) that is preferably at a steeper angle and leading to a smaller aperture than the one on the body portion.

Abstract

A cable retaining apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a band that is wrapped around a group of cables and a clamping portion that holds the ends of the band. The clamping portion has a body portion that is fixed to one end of the band. The body portion also has an axle mounted to it, the axle having a slot cut into it to receive the other end of the band. The end of the axel has a rotatable head for engagement by a tool such as a spanner so that rotation of the head causes the axel to rotate. The body portion also has an aperture that is aligned with an aperture in the axel so that a pin can extend through the apertures to prevent rotation of the axel. In use the band is placed round the cables and its end inserted into the slot. The axel is then rotated and band winds around the axle until it tightens around the cable. The pin is then inserted into the apertures to prevent the band unwinding.
