Abstract

In a lighting device of a display device, a plurality of light emitting elements are mounted on a surface of a light source substrate, and the light source substrate is supported by a light source support member by means of a positioning (fixing) structure such as a metal screw. The plurality of light emitting elements are divided into a plurality of blocks, and the emission light amount can be controlled with respect to each of the blocks. Although the head of the screw is exposed on the surface of the light source substrate, the screw is located between adjacent ones of the blocks. Therefore, even though the illuminating light intensity becomes partially discontinuous owing to the presence of the screw, degradation of display quality originating from such discontinuity can be suppressed.

Abstract

In the electro-optical device, a pillar-shaped protrusion is formed on an insulating film (a first insulating film) provided below a pixel electrode in the downward direction, and thus a conduction section of a second electrode layer (a conductive layer) overlaps the highest surface of the pillar-shaped protrusion. An inter-layer insulating film (a second insulating film) is provided between the second electrode layer and the pixel electrode, but the conduction section is exposed on a surface of the inter-layer insulating film. For this reason, the pixel electrode is electrically connected to the conduction section, when the pixel electrode is laminated on the inter-layer insulating film.

Here, the counter electrode potential is set to be lower than a reference potential, when the reference potential is an electric potential which is obtained by shifting an average electric potential between the high potential and the low potential by an average value between an amount of change in an electric potential of the pixel electrode, caused by a parasitic capacitance of the switching element when the high potential is being applied to the pixel electrode, and an amount of change in the electric potential of the pixel electrode caused by the parasitic capacitance when the low potential is being applied to the pixel electrode.

Abstract

An image processing device that executes deformation of an image. A candidate area setting unit sets candidate areas, each of which includes a specific image, on a target image used as a target for a deformation process. An exclusion determination unit, when there is a candidate area that partially extends off a cropped image that is clipped from the target image through predetermined cropping, excludes the candidate area, which at least partially extends off the cropped image, from the target for the deformation process. A deformation processing unit performs deformation of an image on the candidate areas other than the excluded candidate areas.

Abstract

When first grooves are formed by irradiating a lower surface facing a light outgoing surface of a light guide plate for an illuminating device with laser beams, an outer circumferential region is firstly irradiated with the laser beams to form second grooves. Then, the second grooves are inspected. Next, irradiation conditions of the laser beams are adjusted based on an inspection result of the second grooves, irradiation positions of the laser beams are linearly displaced from formation positions of the second grooves, and formation of the first grooves in the scattering reflection region is then started.

Abstract

An active appearance model is built by arranging the training images in its training library into a hierarchical tree with the training images at each parent node being divided into two child nodes according to similarities in characteristic features. The number of node levels is such that the number of training images associated with each leaf node is smaller than a predefined maximum. A separate AAM, one per leaf node, is constructed using each leaf node's corresponding training images. In operation, starting at the root node, a test image is compared with each parent node's two child nodes and follows a node-path of model images that most closely matches the test image. The test image is submitted to an AAM selected for being associated with the leaf node at which the test image rests. The selected AAM's output aligned image may be resubmitted to the hierarchical tree if sufficient alignment is not achieved.

The decision whether or not two images belong to the same person is then made by comparing the corresponding distance with a pre-defined threshold. Given the fact that more than one face images can be captured per person from video data, several feature based and decision based aggregators are applied to combine pair-wise distances to further improve the verification performance.

Abstract

Frontal face images are classified into four categories such as Asian, Caucasian, African and others. A new representation of face appearance, named BITF (Block Intensity and Texture Feature), is employed as the discrimination feature. An ensemble of three component classifiers, each trained with a different number of BITF features as inputs, is designed to achieve a reliable classification. Further reliability is obtained by taking into consideration other secondary features to boost the classification performance.

Abstract

In a liquid crystal device, a shoulder portion configured to increase the distance between a element-substrate-side substrate body and a opposed-substrate-side substrate body is provided on the opposed-substrate-side substrate body in an area overlapped with a sealing material including a gap material. Therefore, in an area inside the sealing material, the gap between the element substrate and the opposed substrate is smaller than the gap therebetween in the area overlapped with the sealing material. Therefore, the layer thickness of the liquid crystal layer can be reduced without reducing the size of the gap material.

Abstract

In a liquid crystal device according to the embodiment of the invention, a high potential and a low potential relative to the counter electrode potential are alternately applied to the pixel electrode through the switching element.
