Abstract

A System for brine treatment scaling control in a water treatment system is described. In the system, a concentrated brine stream influent may be treated in an electrodialysis-reversal process to produce a concentrated brine stream effluent and a lower salinity diluent water, which may be potable water effluent. The concentrated brine stream effluent may be processed in a brine treatment scaling control system that may have a mixing vessel and a membrane filter with the mixing vessel seeded with calcium sulfate. A lowered salinity brine stream effluent may be produced for return to the electrodialysis-reversal process to allow operation at greater overall recovery and an elevated concentrated brine stream may be produced.

Abstract

A system for treating a biogas stream is described. The system includes a venturi device in communication with a biogas stream source and an influent water source to combine the biogas stream and the influent water to produce a gas-water effluent. The system also includes a degas separator in communication with the venturi device for receipt of the gas-water effluent to produce a relatively low solubility gas effluent and a relatively high solubility gas-water mixture effluent. In addition, the system includes a gas-water pressure release valve in communication with the degas separator to control release of the relatively low solubility gas effluent and a discharge pressure control valve in communication with the degas separator to control release of the relatively high solubility gas-water mixture effluent.

Abstract

A system and method for removing unwanted elements from a gas stream. A biogas stream (20) may be combined with a water stream influent (22) in a venturi device (30) to produce a gas-water mixture effluent (24). The gas-water mixture effluent (24) is processed in a degas separator (32) to separate and produce a relatively low solubility gas effluent (26) and a relatively high solubility gas-water mixture effluent (28). The relatively high solubility gas-water mixture effluent (28) is processed through a discharge pressure control valve (36) based on a selected pressure to be maintained in the degas separator (32) and then discharged or reused.

Abstract

A system and method for simultaneous biologically mediated removal of contaminants (including at least arsenic or nitrate) from water are disclosed herein. The system (10, 10', 100) includes i) a bioreactor (12') having a length suitable for housing at least three different microbial populations (A, B, C, D, E), or ii) two bioreactors (12, 14) coupled together, the two bioreactors (12, 14) each having a length and an empty bed contact time that together are suitable for housing at least three different microbial populations (A, B, C, D, E). The system (10, 10', 100) also includes a biofϊlm attachment medium (16) positioned in i) the bioreactor (12'), or ii) the two bioreactors (12, 14); and the at least three different microbial populations (A, B, C, D, E) formed on the biofϊlm attachment medium (16). The microbial populations (A, B, C, D, E) are selected from oxygen reducing microbes, nitrate reducing microbes, arsenate reducing microbes, sulfate reducing microbes, and uranium reducing microbes.
