Abstract

A device, comprising a wound dressing with an integrally contained envelope, fabricated from a composite material, impermeable to liquid water, but permeable to water vapour and gases and containing a fill material formulation, including sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate, which is capable, on hydration soley by water vapour derived from the wound itself and perspiration from the enclosed skin area, of both generating oxygen and subsequently absorbing carbon dioxide, being designed to develop and maintain a predetermined, supra-atmospheric percentage composition of oxygen within the headspace atmospheres of a wound site under treatment.

Abstract

A device comprising packaging, in the form of an envelope fabricated from a composite material, impermeable to liquid water, but permeable to gases and containing any one of a number of fill material formulations currently available in commercial, oxygen 'scavenging' food packaging inclusions, which include, as the principal active component, the alternatives of either finely comminuted iron metal, ascorbic acid, calcium ascorbate, sodium ascorbate, sodium erythorbate or finely comminuted palladium metal, being designed to establish and maintain an oxygen free atmosphere within the headspace of bottles, sachets or cartons of aqueous liquid foods and beverages.

A device, comprising packaging in the form of an envelope, fabricated from a composite material, impermeable to liquid water, but permeable to water vapour and gases and containing a formulation, including sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate, which is capable, on hydration, of both generating oxygen and subsequently absorbing carbon dioxide, being designed to maintain a predetermined percentage composition of oxygen and carbon dioxide in both modified atmosphere (MA) and controlled atmosphere (CA) packed foods and related products, by actively compensating for changes within the pack atmosphere.

Abstract

A polymeric container, for example for food or drink, contains a compartment containing an absorber (20, 38) for scavenging a selected gas or vapour from within the polymeric container. The compartment is formed by welding a polymeric membrane (18, 42) which is permeable to the selected gas or vapour to an internal surface of the polymeric container (30) or its polymeric closure (12, 16, 34) prior to the filling and closure of the container. The polymeric materials comprising the compartment are hence different in nature, and are dielectrically welded together to obtain secure closure of the compartment.
