Abstract

A winch drum is disclosed. In a first aspect, a first set of teeth are positioned around an outer perimeter of a drum. The first set of teeth taper from a first crown to a first base. A second set of teeth are positioned around the outer perimeter of the drum. The second set of teeth taper from a second crown to a second base. The second set of teeth are offset from the first set of teeth such that a gap between the first bases and the second bases forms a sinusoidal channel for a line to follow the first set of teeth and the second set of teeth becomes a guide for the line so that the line can engage the sinusoidal channel. The line follows the sinusoidal channel and each change of direction along the sinusoidal path causes the line to engage by friction with the first bases and the second bases. In a second aspect, the drum includes a trough that follows a sinusoidal path and wherein the trough is narrower at its bottom than at its top.

Abstract

An overhead door system is disclosed, which includes a first track and a second track mounted on opposite sides of an opening. Each track has a vertical portion, a transition portion, and a horizontal portion, with the transition portion being between the vertical portion and the horizontal portion. An overhead door engages the first and second tracks on opposite sides of the overhead door and is movable along the first and second tracks between a closed, vertical position and a raised, horizontal position. A motor unit has a motor that is mounted above the horizontal portions of the first and second tracks. A rail is parallel to and disposed between the horizontal portions of the first and second tracks. The rail carries a carriage configured to move in a first direction to raise the overhead door and in a second, opposite direction to lower the overhead door. A connecting member is pivotally attached at one end near a top edge of the overhead door and attached at an opposite end to the carriage. A one-way bearing is disposed between the motor and the carriage. The motor, as it rotates in a first rotational direction, applies force to the carriage to move the carriage in the first direction to raise the overhead door. Nevertheless, owing to the one-way bearing, the motor, as it rotates in a second, opposite rotational direction, does not apply force to the carriage to move the carriage in the second direction to lower the overhead door. A kit to retrofit an overhead door system with a one-way bearing is also disclosed.

A chirp spread spectrum (CSS) receiver may reject, based on multiple data alignment chirps that includes an attribute identifier that is a mismatch to one or more preconfigured identifiers, a message early and before fully receiving/decoding the message. The multiple data alignment chirps may enable usage of a larger range of IDs than a single chirp signal. A receiver may receive a sequence of training chirps for symbol alignment followed by multiple opposite chirps for data alignment. Training chirps may be processed through a fast-Fourier transform (FFT) and the resulting values accumulated until a threshold is exceeded. Using symbol alignment from the training chirps, the receiver may decode multiple opposite chirps that indicate data alignment and comprise an encoded identifier. The receiver may reject the message and terminate further message processing based on the encoded identifier being a mismatch to preconfigured identifiers or attributes indicated by the encoded identifier.

Abstract

Devices and system for releasably securing objects are disclosed. An insert with tabs around a perimeter is inserted into a receiver. The tabs follow inlet grooves and tab capture grooves, and then retract into tab resting depressions, securing the insert and receiver while force is maintained between the insert and the receiver. The force is removed and the tabs exit the tab resting depressions into the tab release groove. Application of the force again causes the tabs to enter into an outlet groove and out of the receiver, thus detaching the insert and the receiver. The device is preferably used in a system for raising a lowering a rectangular platform with a device at each corner of the platform.

Abstract

A counterbalance system for an overhead door is disclosed. The system includes a torsion adjustment comprising a first portion and a second portion, the first and second portions being rotatable relative to one another in a first direction and not in a second direction opposite the first direction. The system also includes an anchor fixed to the first portion, a collar fixed to the second portion, the collar being selectively fixable to a shaft of the overhead door, and a spring coupled between the collar and the anchor. The spring supports at least a portion of the weight of the overhead door as the overhead door is raised and lowered. Rotating the first portion of the torsion calibration collar relative to the second portion of the torsion calibration collar increases torsion in the spring and therefore calibrates the spring to support a desired amount of the weight of the overhead door.

Abstract

A vacuum and blower device is disclosed. The vacuum and blower device comprises a fan driven by a first motor, and a housing with a vent, a vacuum input aperture, and a blower output aperture. The vacuum input aperture and the blower output aperture are on one end of the device. The vacuum and blower device further includes an airflow director, the airflow director being held within the housing and adapted to be rotated between a first and second position. A blower output channel communicates with the airflow director and the blower output aperture. In the first position, the fan draws air through the vacuum input aperture and out the vent and airflow to the blower output channel is blocked. In the second position, the fan blows air through the blower output channel and out the blower output aperture.

Abstract

A detachable line guide is provided. A screw with a helical groove is provided. A guide is positioned a fixed distance perpendicular to the screw and can travel laterally freely. The guide includes a follower which is attached to the guide by a spring. The follower is biased into the groove. Rotation of the screw causes the follower to track the groove and move the guide laterally. The guide is configured for a line to pass therethrough. When the line exerts a lateral force above a predetermined threshold against the guide, the follower rides up and out of the groove as the spring is compressed.
