Abstract

A water softening device includes a filter configured to remove hardness from a first stream of raw water to produce a second stream of softened water. The filter includes an ion exchange material which is loaded with a first cationic ion species deriving from a tracer salt and with a second cationic ion species deriving from a regenerant salt. The IEX material shows a lower affinity to the first cationic ion species than to the hardness. At the same time the IEX material shows a higher affinity to the first cationic ion species than to the second cationic species. An electrical property of the second stream is monitored by a sensor. A change in the monitored electrical property can be used as an indicator for the exhaustion state of the filter.

Abstract

A description is given of a dishwashing method in which a dishwasher is supplied with water which has an oxidizing and disinfecting action and is used as dishwashing water, or is added to dishwashing water, and of a dishwasher in which the method can be implemented. In order to provide a supply of the water with the oxidizing and disinfecting action, a flow of untreated water is fed into a reverse-osmosis system and is separated there into a flow of concentrate and a flow of permeate. Ozone is produced by means of an ozone generator and is introduced into the flow of permeate passing out of the reverse-osmosis system.

Abstract

A process for treating water, in particular for producing ultrapure water, is described, in which a water stream is purified in a reverse osmosis unit, wherein the water stream is subjected to a pretreatment having the steps (1) partial exchange of the cations present in the water stream for H+ ions and (2) substantially complete exchange of the anions present in the water stream against OH- ions, and the water stream obtained from the pretreatment is passed directly into the reverse osmosis unit. In addition, a system is described in which such a process may be carried out.

Abstract

The invention relates to a process and a device for enriching water, in particular drinking water, with magnesium ions. In order to enable enrichment of water with magnesium ions in exchange for calcium ions and/or heavy metal ions during treatment of water, and in particular of drinking water, it is proposed according to the invention to pass the water through an ion exchanger which contains a weakly acidic ion exchange material, wherein at least a part of its ion exchange capacity is loaded with magnesium ions.

Abstract

A water-conditioning cartridge has a housing that encloses an ion exchanger and can be screwed via a screw thread onto a cartridge-connecting fitting. The cartridge is provided with a water inlet for admission of untreated water, especially from a water-supply system, and with a water outlet, which is connected or can be connected to a consuming component, especially a beverage machine. To ensure that the water-conditioning cartridge can be screwed onto only a particular cartridge-connecting fitting designed for this type of water-conditioning cartridge, the housing and the cartridge-connecting fitting are each provided with a plurality of annular coding ribs, which are disposed concentrically relative to the thread axis of the screw thread, and which engage with one another when the housing is screwed onto the cartridge-connecting fitting.
