A method and apparatus of manufacturing an article from a pulp material. The apparatus comprises a pulp vat with a suspension of a pulp material, and a suction mold. A preform is formed by submerging the suction mold in the pulp vat, and depositing the pulp material in the suction mold by suction. The preform is formed with a protrusion, which can be gripped by a gripping mechanism of an overhead conveyor. The preform is dried in a drying oven and conveyed by the overhead conveyor into a press in a hanging position.
