In the inventive method, a new sub-image is created by blending the HL, LH, and HH sub-images with the LL band. Maximization and averaging processes are applied on HL, LH, and HH sub-images. The intermediate images resulting from the maximization and averaging processes are blended with the LL band. The LL band is updated to be represented by 8 bits and a hybrid sub-image with a size four times smaller than the original image is obtained. The resulting hybrid sub-band performs better than the LL sub-band when used in image analysis (object classification, object detection, object segmentation, etc.). The invention has been tested for classifying remote sensing scene images and found to have about 2% higher performance than the LL sub-band.

Abstract

A method that determines optical path maintenance need before any critical failure in operation of the system is provided. In order to indicate the maintenance need due to the defocusing, the pixel-wise offset value differences between 2 point NUC and 1 point NUC are examined. When the width of this pixel-wise offset difference histogram is greater than predefined threshold, maintenance need is raised. The change in detector characteristics and the need for 2 point NUC/BPR update are proposed to be determined after 1 point NUC by controlling the total number of the bad pixels and bad pixel clusters.

Abstract

Disclosed is a method for training shallow convolutional neural networks for infrared target detection using a two-phase learning strategy that can converge to satisfactory detection performance, even with scale-invariance capability. In the first step, the aim is to ensure that only filters in the convolutional layer produce semantic features that serve the problem of target detection. L2-norm (Euclidian norm) is used as loss function for the stable training of semantic filters obtained from the convolutional layers. In the next step, only the decision layers are trained by transferring the weight values in the convolutional layers completely and freezing the learning rate. In this step, unlike the first, the L1-norm (mean-absolute-deviation) loss function is used.

Abstract

A frequency response estimation method to compensate for channel differences in distributed acoustic sensing systems include two compensation algorithms, online and offline, and these two compensation algorithms are presented to generate standardized mel-frequency features, as an input to neural networks. By this scheme, the variance of mel-frequency feature space is decreased and normalized among different channels, which enables to use less training data and smaller architectures for classification and anomalous event detection tasks.

Abstract

A method that detects locations of undesired levels of signal loss in DAS systems that use optical fibers. In the method, raw DAS signals are received from an optical fiber of a DAS system with dual photodetector positioned at the end(s) of the optical fiber. Locations on the optical fiber are named “channels” having a certain length on the optical fiber and are numbered according to distances of the channels from the photodetector. The raw DAS signals received from each channel are processed by the dual photodetector to obtain raw DAS statistical data for each channel. The obtained raw DAS statistical data are then reconstructed to produce reconstructed DAS statistical data in which noise has been removed. The reconstructed DAS statistical data form power statistics for each channel. The power statistics is expected to be linearly decreasing with a farther distance of each channel from the photodetector. A change detection algorithm is provided to detect possible undesired levels of signal loss and to find the locations of the signal loss based on the power statistics.

Abstract

A method is based on the user-specific frozen bit patterns of polar codes assigned to users. At the transmitter, the binary-valued user-specific frozen bit pattern sequences to be used in frozen bit locations are determined for each user, the information bits of each user are encoded using a polar encoder, and the binary-valued user-specific frozen bit patterns are used in frozen bit locations during encoding operation to improve the performance of the downlink multi-user MIMO system. Coded bits are mapped to symbols to be transmitted, and the symbols are mapped to the MIMO layers. Then, multi-antenna precoding is applied and baseband-to-RF processing is performed onto the precoded symbols to transmit the signal. The signal of all users is transmitted at the same time-frequency resources using transmit antennas. Each receiver receives the transmitted signal which is transmitted through respective downlink channels. Each user performs RF-to-baseband processing to their respective received signal.

Abstract

The invention presents a method that determines optical path maintenance need before any critical failure in operation of the system.

Abstract

The invention relates to a sector-focused measurement matrix design and a residual signal-based reconstruction method in compressive sensing based direction of arrival estimation systems. In the invention, by designing sector-focused measurement matrices, it is ensured to focus on measurements in certain sectors. With an iterative reconstruction algorithm, targets in each sector are found one by one, by subtracting the effect of each estimated target from the sector-based measurement, and by ensuring that the remaining estimations are performed using these residual measurements, an algorithm enabling higher performance than typical reconstruction algorithms is proposed. Moreover, the application of the residual signal based reconstruction approach in "target-focused" systems rather than the sector-focused is also shown. In addition, particle filter algorithms that can work integrated with these techniques are proposed in the invention.

Abstract

The invention presents fusion of spatio-temporal unsupervised anomaly detection and supervised classification methods for high performance DAS systems. Supervised techniques based on CNN or RNN have shown good generalization performance in classification of DAS signals where spatio-temporal data come from a wide variety of geographic regions and events. Spatial and temporal nature of the DAS data can be modelled with unsupervised learning techniques and the different behaviours with respect to adjacent channels and past behaviours can be highlighted as an anomaly. In addition to classification probability, anomaly score of the signal can be evaluated the improve performance.

Abstract

The present invention is a method that suggests grading of a CMC (Ceramic Matrix Composite) structure as a function of dielectric constant by altering the solid loading (SL) ratio of the individual composite layers. The slurry is applied either by impregnation into the ceramic fabrics or by coating on ceramic fibers. The final structure is prepared by piling up prepregs or weaving ceramic fibers with specific SL ratio, drying and firing. This approach not only ensures the thermomechanical and chemical compatibility between the layers but also results in a superior broadband performance with respect to the sandwich structures.

Abstract

The invention proposes a complete protocol for one-directional asynchronous communication protocol between two agents with crash recovery semantics and staleness detection. Both the producer and the consumer read and write into memory regions known to both agents. The memory logically shared between the agents can either be physically shared or be connected via a fabric such as PCIe bus or VME bus. Deadlock is trivially prevented by disallowing the use of atomic locks by either agent. Data integrity is achieved by not having a memory location that can be updated by both agents. Data validity is achieved by the use of a clock accessible by both agents. Crash-recovery is handled by a handshake which makes use of a common clock.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a channel estimation method (100) and apparatus for MIMO-OFDM communications systems with an improved performance compared to conventional receivers. The method (100) is based on compensating the phase changes in the resource elements in a CDM group during pilot depatterning stage. The received signal is OFDM demodulated to obtain received symbols in the resource grid and an initial pilot depatterning is performed to the received symbols. The phase change rates in the resource grid is determined, phase correction terms are calculated and applied. The pilot depatterning is performed using phase corrected received signals and the channel estimates at pilot locations are updated using phase change correction terms. The estimated values in pilot locations are interpolated to obtain the channel estimation values for all resource elements.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a channel estimation method and apparatus for MIMO-OFDM communications systems utilizing CDM at pilot locations with near-optimal performance with practical complexity. The method is based on iterative pilot depatterning which filters the estimated channel values at the pilot locations to obtain the channel changes in the pilot depatterning group and then cancels the inter-layer interference iteratively to achieve performance improvement. The received signal is OFDM demodulated to obtain received symbols in the resource grid and an initial pilot depatterning is performed to the received symbols. The iterative pilot depatterning is applied. At each iteration, the channel estimates at pilot locations are filtered, and pilot depatterning with inter-layer interference cancellation is performed using the received signal and filtered channel estimates at the pilot locations of other layers. The channel values at pilot locations are updated and if the predetermined number of iterations is reached iterative process is terminated, if it is not reached, then iteration count is increased and the next iteration starts. The estimated values in pilot locations as a result of iterative pilot depatterning are interpolated to obtain the channel estimation values for all resource elements.

Abstract

The invention relates to a calibration method having a super-resolution that allows imaging with a size that is smaller than a size of the magnetic nanoparticle by using calibration measurements along with the signal processing techniques for magnetic particle imaging. In the proposed method, a large MNP sample is used. However, the mentioned sample is moved at smaller steps compared to the size of the MNP (for example, at half its size). Then, the measurements from the half-distance moved samples are deconvolved to reconstruct a smaller sized system matrix. Hence, using the proposed technique, it is possible to calibrate to smaller sizes compared to the size of the point magnetic nanoparticle.

Abstract

Invention relates to a gearbox mechanism (D) performing transition of phase shifters of all bands located in base station antennas between desired different operation positions by means of two engines (1, 2). Power and motion transmission can be achieved for eight different antenna positions by use of only two engines (1, 2) without use of any gear selective member or clutching by means of two operation conditions of gearbox mechanism (D). Thus, antenna production cost is reduced, antenna weight is reduced and antenna inner volume tilting mechanism covering volume is reduced.

Abstract

The invention particularly relates to global-based adaptive contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (GBA-CLAHE) method that allows to reveal regional details on the overall image by using the redistribution function obtained from the overall image in the redistribution phase of the CLAHE technique, which is a regional method used to enhance contrast. In the redistribution step of the GBA-CLAHE method, the redistribution process of the subimage histogram values exceeding the clip limit, which is calculated locally adaptively, is performed as per the redistribution function obtained from the overall image, allowing the details to be revealed on the general image, and it is aimed to preserve image integrity as all localities are redistributed in the same way. For example, in case the clip limit is zero for all subimages, this method functions like a global contrast enhancement technique as output, and as the subimage clip limit increases, details are revealed on the overall image.

Abstract

A method for electronic calibration of a magnetic particle imaging system is provided by proposing a coded calibration scene that contains multiple nanoparticle samples distributed randomly or pseudo-randomly inside a volume of the coded calibration scene where nanoparticle positions are changed virtually multiple times to create different calibration scenes. Virtual effect is created with current carrying electromagnets surrounding the nanoparticle samples. The method comprises: placing a plurality of nanoparticle samples inside a calibration scene; surrounding the plurality of nanoparticle samples with one or more electromagnets; applying a current to the one or more electromagnets to cause a magnetic field offset at a desired amplitude to virtually move the plurality of nanoparticle samples to a desired position; generating a system matrix with compressed sensing methods by using measurements taken for different current excitations of the one or more electromagnets, wherein the plurality of nanoparticles samples are virtually in different positions.

Abstract

A hardware complexity reduction method for successive cancellation list decoders (SCL) is provided. In path pruning stages of an SCL decoding, L paths with smallest path metrics out of 2L candidate paths are chosen as surviving candidate paths as in a conventional SCL algorithm. Moreover, path indexes of L surviving candidate paths are provided in a sorted manner according to indexes at an output of a sorter module. After a path pruning, instead of L-to-1 multiplexers, (L/2+1)-to-1 multiplexers are deployed to perform copying operations of any required elements stored in dedicated registers of the L surviving candidate paths.

Abstract

In the present invention, the resulting two-sided ISI effect is migrated to an equivalent noncausal communication channel. Then, a method for mitigating two-sided ISI and compensating the noncausal channel effect is proposed. The method comprises insertion and removal of CP and CS. When CS and CP are inserted at transmitter and removed at receiver in block transmission based communication systems, it is possible to generate a circulant convolution matrix for noncausal communication channel. In addition, the method comprises equalization of a noncausal communication channel in block transmission based communication systems when the channel state information is available at the receiver.

Abstract

The present invention discloses a method for training shallow convolutional neural networks for infrared target detection using a two-phase learning strategy, that can converge to satisfactory detection performance, even with scale-invariance capability. In first step, the aim is to ensure that only filters in the convolutional layer produce semantic features that serve the problem of target detection. L2-norm (Euclidian norm) was used as loss function for the stable training of semantic filters obtained from the convolutional layers. Later, only the decision layers are trained by transferring the weight values in the convolutional layers completely and freezing the learning rate. In this step, unlike the first, the L1-norm (mean-absolute-deviation) loss function is used.
