Abstract

It was discovered that the proportional isoalloLCA, 3-oxoLCA, alloLCA, and 3-oxoalloLCA content in centenarian fecal matter is greater than that of young individuals. Enteric bacteria that are unique to centenarians and involved in the production of these bile acids were also identified. It was also discovered that these bile acids, enzymes involved in the production thereof, and bacteria that produce said enzymes reduce the risk of pathogenic bacterial infection, prostate cancer, and the like, and contribute to longevity.
