Disclosed are oral care compositions comprising a thickening silica and a fluoride ion source, wherein fluoride is absorbed on the thickening silica and wherein the pH of the composition is below 5.5, as well as to methods of using these compositions. The thickening silica may have a particle size distribution (D95) less than or equal to 7 μm and a BET surface area of greater than or equal to 150 m2/g.
