Abstract

The invention relates to a metal bellows (10), comprising a bellows wall (16), which extends around a longitudinal axis (12) and encloses a bellows interior (14), the bellows wall (16) having inner folds (18) and outer folds (20), which are connected to each other by means of wall flanks (22). Said metal bellows is designed and developed in such a way, with a view to the economical production of a sufficiently durable and deformable metal bellows, that the inner folds (18) and/or the outer folds (20) are formed in such a way that said folds each enclose an annular space (24, 25). The invention further relates to a method for producing a metal bellows (10).

Abstract

A multiple component hot gas flowing conduit has an elongated, convoluted bellows, an interlock liner, frequency dampers and elastic spacers engaging the dampers and biasing the dampers into respective bellows convolution with no contact of bellows and liner for all operating states of the conduit. Assembly pretension of the interlock liner preferably flattens out the elastic spacers permitting assembly of the liner into the bellows and upon relaxation of the liner, the spacers extend radially outwardly to engage and bias the dampers into the bellows. The bellows is convoluted throughout, or may have convoluted ends with an integral smooth-wall tube therebetween. Components are isolated from abrasion against one another.

Abstract

The invention relates to a device (2) for producing a flexible coiled tube (10) which can be flexibly elongated to a limited degree and which is made of a continuously supplied strip of a flat metal material, comprising a roll-bending and winding unit (4) to which the strip is supplied and where the strip is brought to an approximately S-shaped or Z-shaped form when viewed transversely to the strip longitudinal direction and wound in a helical manner, thereby forming an undercut that acts in an axial direction (6), wherein a coiled tube (10) is produced which can be moved out of the roll-bending and winding unit (4). The device also comprises a joining and separating unit (12) with a joining and separating station (15) which can be moved in a manner approximately corresponding to the advancing speed and where the coiled tube (10) is cut to length into longitudinal sections (38) of a specified length, and flat material regions which come to rest one over the other at opposite longitudinal end regions (40) of the longitudinal sections (38) are joined in a bonded manner. The device is characterized in that a clamping unit (16) is provided which rotationally fixes the coiled tube (10) continuously being moved out of the roll-bending and winding unit (4) and in this state can be moved away from the roll-bending and winding unit (4) in a rotationally drivable manner approximately at the same rotational speed as the coiled tube (10) moving out of the roll-bending and winding unit and at approximately the same advancing speed as the coiled tube so that the coiled tube is driven in a defined rotating and advancing manner in the region of the joining and separating unit (12), and immediately after running against an end stop (20) in the joining and separating unit (12), a defined length of the coiled tube (10) can be obtained without torsion and clearance between the end stop (20) and the joining and separating station (15).

Abstract

A flexible coupling (10) used in coupling conduits for hot exhaust gas comprises a flexible bellow (12), a gas flow controlling element (18; 19; 21; 23) at a coupling entry end (10a), and a discharge end (10b). Gas flow within the coupling (10) is concentrated and directed toward a coupling discharge end (10b), away from the bellows (12). Any bellows flexible liner is eliminated. Gas flow in the coupling (10) between the flow controlling element (18; 19; 21; 23) and the discharge end (10b) of the coupling (10) is at least partially unconfined. Heat transfer to the bellows (12) from the gas flow (GF) is diminished as compared to any other level of heat transfer if the hot gas flow engaged the bellows (12) directly without the gas flow control provided herein.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing a thermally-insulated coiled hose (7), in which a metal coiled hose (7) that was initially produced in a conventional manner is compressed such that the coils thereof lie against each other and adjacent axial wall regions (7.1) of individual coils thus form at least one non-interrupted lateral wall surface. A ceramic-based coating (8) is subsequently applied to said at least one non-interrupted lateral wall surface, and cured, and the coiled hose (7) formed in this manner is then withdrawn wherein adjacent axial wall regions (7.1) of adjacent coils detach from one another and the coating is interrupted at separation points (8.1). The invention also relates to a coiled hose.

Abstract

The invention relates to a decoupling element, in particular for exhaust gas systems, for use with an injection device (14) for injecting a reductant, such as urea, comprising a corrugated metal bellows (7) and a flow-conducting element (9, 23) arranged inside the bellows (7). The outer diameter (D1) of the flow-conducting element is smaller than the inner diameter (D2) of the bellows (7). According to the invention, the flow-conducting element (9, 23) divides the interior of the bellows (7) into an inner core flow path for a core flow (16) of the exhaust gas flow and an outer jacket flow path for a jacket flow (17) of the exhaust gas flow. The invention further relates to a method, by means of which exhaust gas flowing in an exhaust gas flow flows through a flow-conducting element arranged at a final radial distance inside the bellows, said exhaust gas being divided into a core flow and a jacket flow, whereby the wetting of the bellows and thus the deposition of urea inside the bellows corrugations are avoided.

Abstract

The invention relates to a flexible pipe element (1), in particular for exhaust gas pipes of internal combustion engines in motor vehicles, comprising a thread-like or corrugated sheathing (2) provided with cylindrical connection ends (3), and further comprising a longitudinal support in the form of a metal braided and/or knitted hose (4) which is disposed coaxially outside of the sheathing and fixed to the connection ends. The aim of the invention is to provide a cost-effective design for the longitudinal support of the pipe element which in the case of a traction stop has a smoothly increasing spring characteristic and does not expose the edge corrugations of the sheathing to any detrimental effects of forces originating from the casing. The aim is achieved according to the invention in that a respective annular flexible buffer element (6) is disposed between the end half-corrugations (5) of the sheathing and the angle rings (7) placed on the end of the sheathing such that the deflection of the braided and/or knitted hose from the level of the outside diameter of the sheathing to the level of the cylindrical end of the sheathing is supported exclusively by the buffer element.

Abstract

The invention relates to a flexible line element (1), in particular for exhaust gas lines from internal combustion engines in motor vehicles, comprising a bellows (2), at least one additional element (3) that coaxially adjoins the bellows, in particular a metal mesh tube or a metal fabric tube and/or a coiled tube, such as a strip-wound tube, which lies within the bellows (2). A damping element made of metal wool lies between the bellows (2) and the additional element (3), said damping element consisting of a spirally coiled strip of metal wool. The subject matter of the invention enables a flexible parameterization of the damping characteristic while simultaneously reducing the range of variation with a simplified assembly.

Abstract

A coupling (15) has respective support elements (20, 30) extending respectively from each coupling end toward the other, but not directly connected to each other. Radially oriented ends of these elements (20, 30) define a pocket (35) capturing a cushion (38) therein. A non-metallic bellows (16) operably covers the coupling (15). An optional thermal shield (50) is disposed between the bellows (16) and the support elements (20, 30).

Abstract

The invention relates to a compensating element to compensate for changes in length or an offset in pipe lines. The compensating element comprises a thin-walled corrugated pipe part (1), which is connected to a flange-like connector (2) at both ends, making it possible to provide a preferably detachable coupling to a pipe line. The corrugated pipe part (1) is bonded to the respective connector (2) on the inside of the compensating element such that said parts form a continuous, closed surface together with the joint (8) on the inside of the compensating element. Such compensating elements can be cleaned without difficulty and in a residue-free manner compared to the compensating elements known today and meet maximum requirements with regard to hygiene, freedom of contamination and durability.
