The first filter (FT1) is washed using a washing liquid to dislodge at least some of the accumulated waste material from the first filter (FT1) and discharging the washing liquid and at least some of the dislodged waste material from the first filter (FT1). The washing liquid discharged from the first filter (FT1) is filtered using a second filter (FT2) and a second filtered liquid is discharged from the second filter (FT2), the second filter accumulating waste material filtered from the washing liquid. The second filter (FT2) comprises an open cell filter media, the open cell filter media comprising a plurality of filter elements (43) which form a static filter pack (FP1), the filter elements (43) each having one or more filter cells (15), the static filter pack (FP1) filtering the washing liquid discharged from the first filter (FT1).
