Abstract

A fire system 10 for a building is provided, the fire system 10 comprising: a fire panel 12 for monitoring the building and activating an alarm; and a plurality of remote units 14, 16, 18 electrically connected to the fire panel 12 in a circuit 20 having a loop configuration. At least some of the plurality of remote units 14, 16, 18 comprise an indicating device 14, 18 for modulating a current in the circuit 20. The plurality of remote units 14, 16, 18 are in communication with the fire panel 12 in a master-slave relationship. The fire panel 12 comprises a calibration module 22 for polling each indicating device 14, 18 to obtain a current response value and for storing said current response values, the current response value of an indicating device 14, 18 being based on the amplitude of the current when modulated by that indicating device 14, 18.

Abstract

A fire detection apparatus includes a fire detector (1) comprising an integrated sounding device (5) that is configured to emit a sound (7) from the fire detector (1) and that is further configured to detect reverberation of the emitted sound resulting from a cover (9) placed over the fire detector (1). The detected reverberation can be used to determine that the fire detector (1) has been covered.

Abstract

A detection chamber assembly of a smoke detector is provided. The detection chamber assembly includes upper and lower covers, louvers and a corrugated bug screen. The louvers are arranged with the upper and lower covers to define a chamber bound between the upper and lower covers and the louvers. The louvers include a first pair of louvers defining a first space therebetween to permit fluidic ingress to the chamber and a second pair of louvers defining a second space therebetween to permit fluidic ingress to the chamber. The second space is wider than the first space. The corrugated bug screen includes a body disposed about the louvers and a mesh corrugation feature coupled to the body at the second space to permit fluidic ingress to the chamber at the second space and to inhibit bug ingress to the chamber at the second space.

Abstract

An optical chamber assembly of a life safety device includes a light ring for supporting at least one light device and an optical cover defining an interior chamber of the optical chamber assembly. The optical cover has a plurality of side members spaced from one another to define a plurality of smoke flow paths connected to the interior chamber. A light cover is disposed between the light ring and the optical cover and optically couples the at least one light device with the interior chamber. A primary smoke entry location is defined by at least one of the plurality of smoke flow paths in the optical cover and a secondary smoke entry location distinct from the primary smoke entry location is arranged in fluid communication with the interior chamber.
