Abstract

A crimping tool uses a die set with a single point indenter profile to allow of a wide range of electrical connectors and conductors without changing die sets and/or crimping tools. This avoids the need to purchase a separate crimping tool. A die set with an indenter feature in two configurations encompasses the required range of conductors in existing crimping tools, consisting of two pyramid indenter dies and one common wedge die. One advantage of this invention is it allows the strength and versatility of a die set with a single-point indenter without the purchase of a separate crimping tool. The dies of this invention do not require switching out for different sized lugs, thus reducing misplacement and loss. The die halves replace numerous standard U-dies, making the dies of this invention more appealing while offer enhanced pullout strength of connections resulting from this invention.

Abstract

A screw assembly for use with an electrical connector securing a conductor includes a threaded body configured to be releasably coupled to a coupling portion of the connector. A contacting structure includes a plate spaced from the threaded body and has a flat contacting surface configured for contacting the conductor. The plate is coupled to the threaded body. The plate is rotatable relative to the threaded body when the threaded body is coupled to the coupling portion of the connector. The plate is restricted from movement away from said threaded body when the threaded body is not coupled to the coupling portion of the connector. A spacer may be positioned between the plate and the threaded body and is configured to urge the plate away from the threaded body.

Abstract

A submersible electrical connector (10) intended for use in a power distribution network permits a metal to stripped metal conductor connection to be visually inspected and verified by the installer while eliminating many opportunities for human error present with existing connectors. The connector (10) in one embodiment includes a generally cup or dome-shaped enclosure (12) which is preferably transparent. An open end (16) of the enclosure (12) mates with a seal body (26) and a connector plate (48) has a number of apertures (52) adapted to receive the bare metal ends of conductors or wires inserted through the seal body (26). Each aperture (52) in the connector (10) has an associated set screw (54) for securing the conductor (94) thereto. A molded seal member (70) is adapted to mate with the seal body (26) and to provide a water-tight connection when mated with the enclosure (12). The seal member (70) has a number of seal ducts (76) each aligned with one of the apertures (52) in the connector (10). The seal ducts (76) provide a water¬ tight seal (70) around the plastic sheath (98) of the conductor (94) when installed in the assembly. Each seal duct (76) initially includes a missel-shaped wire way guide plug (84) inserted therein. Each wire way guide plug (84) is open at the bottom to receive the exposed end (92) of the conductor (94) therein. The wire way guide plugs (84) remain installed in the seal ducts (76) to seal them until a conductor (94) is inserted through the associated seal duct (76).
