Abstract

A method for inserting a cannula of an endoscope into a cavity of a patient includes slidably coupling an inner sleeve of a sheath with an outer sleeve of the sheath and advancing an introducer, in a collapsed configuration and positioned at a distal end of the outer sleeve, through a cavity of the patient until the introducer is inserted into the internal space of the patient. The method includes translating the inner sleeve relative to the outer sleeve and towards the introducer to dilate the internal space, and placing the cannula of the endoscope within the inner sleeve of the sheath, proximal to the introducer at the distal end of the outer sleeve. The method includes advancing the cannula along the inner sleeve and through the introducer a desired distance within the cavity, and removing the cannula and sheath from the patient.

Abstract

A tray for securing an implantable device to a carrier member includes a slot configured to retain the carrier member and a receptacle adjacent the slot. The carrier member surrounds a shaft of the implantable device. The receptacle has a first width at a proximal end of the receptacle to receive first and second arms of the implantable device in an initial state in which the first and second arms extend substantially perpendicularly from the shaft. The receptacle has a second width at a distal end of the receptacle for receiving the first and second arms of the implantable device in a collapsed state in which the first and second arms are folded against the shaft such that the carrier member can be slid over the first and second arms to retain the first and second arms. The second width is less than the first width.

Abstract

Endoscopic devices are disclosed for viewing and/or performing a surgery on a patient's organ, such as a uterus. In an embodiment, the endoscopic deice includes a housing, a cannula, an imaging system, and a flexible printed circuit (FPC). The cannula is configured for insertion through a cervix into a uterus. The cannula has a lumen that extends from a proximal end of the cannula to a distal end of the cannula. The proximal end of the cannula is secured within the housing. The imaging system is located at a distal end of the cannula and includes a camera and one or more light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The FPC extends within the lumen of the cannula and electrically connects the camera and the LEDs to electrical components located in the housing. The lumen is configured to provide a passage for a working tool.

Abstract

Blood flow monitors and methods of monitoring characteristics of tissue are described. An example method of monitoring characteristics of tissue includes: placing a tissue flap at a point of treatment, the tissue flap is a section of tissue that includes a blood vessel; attaching a first sensor to the tissue flap to monitor blood flow through the blood vessel; attaching the first sensor to a blood flow monitor that has a first visual display field and a second visual display field; attaching a second sensor to the tissue flap to monitor a characteristic of the tissue flap; attaching the second sensor to the blood flow monitor; activating the blood flow monitor to observe the blood flow through the first blood vessel and the characteristic of the tissue flap; and monitoring the blood flow through the first blood vessel over a period of time and the characteristic of the tissue flap.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method performed by one or more computers for tracking a biological material of a subject during an in-vitro fertilization process. The method includes receiving, from a camera, an image of a dish having a visual characteristic and a drop disposed on the dish, the dish holding the biological material at a drop location. The method then includes processing the image of the dish, using a drop identification model, to identify the drop according to the visual characteristic. Further, the method includes assigning an identifier to the drop associated with the drop location, and recording the identifier of the drop associated with the drop location.

Abstract

A method and system of providing therapy to a patient's uterus is provided, which can include any number of features. The method can include the steps of inserting a uterine device into the uterus and performing a uterine integrity test to determine that the uterus is intact and not perforated. If it is determined that the uterus is not perforated, a patency test can be performed to determine that the uterine device is not clogged or embedded in tissue. If the uterus is intact and the device is not clogged or embedded in tissue, the uterus can be treated with the uterine device, e.g., uterine ablation. Systems for performing these methods are also disclosed.

Abstract

A method of protecting a fetus from injury during umbilical cord prolapse includes delivering a device which includes a hollow sheath and a compliant portion partially or completely surrounding the hollow sheath into a vaginal canal of a patient. The device is maneuvered within the vaginal canal and/or cervical opening such that a prolapsed umbilical cord enters the hollow sheath. The device is then positioned within a uterus of the patient, such that a first face of the compliant portion contacts a fetus and a second face of the compliant portion contacts a wall of the uterus.

Abstract

Doppler probes, blood flow monitoring systems, and methods of monitoring blood flow are described. An example probe for monitoring blood flow through a blood vessel includes a retaining member, a first sensor, a first wire member, a second sensor, and a second wire member. The retaining member has a main body that defines an outer surface and an inner surface. The retaining member is moveable between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The inner surface defines a passageway in the closed configuration. The first sensor is disposed on the inner surface of the retaining member. The first wire member is attached to the first sensor and has a first end and a second end. The second sensor is disposed on the first wire member between the first end and the second end of the first wire member. The second wire member is attached to the second sensor.

Abstract

An example method of calibrating a blood flow monitoring device includes positioning a remote device and a blood flow monitor within physical proximity of one another, placing the remote device in a calibration mode such that a microphone of the remote device is active and can receive Doppler sounds emitted by a speaker of the blood flow monitor; emitting Doppler sounds through the speaker of the blood flow monitor; receiving the Doppler sounds as received Doppler sounds using the microphone of the remote device; emitting the received Doppler sounds through a speaker of the remote device as remote device sounds; receiving the remote device sounds using the microphone of the remote device; identifying any differences between the received Doppler sounds and the received remote device sounds; and calibrating the remote device based on the identified differences between the received Doppler sounds and the received remote device sounds.

Abstract

A vapor delivery device includes an induction coil system. The induction coil system can include a coiled fluid tube, a coiled wire, a capsule between the coiled fluid tube and the wire, and a cooling fluid supply configured to force a cooling fluid through the capsule across the coiled wire. The induction coil system can include a closed loop ferrite core, a wire coiled around a first portion of the ferrite core, and a fluid tube coiled around a second portion of the ferrite core. A wire coil can be contained in a cartridge system removably coupleable to a disposable vapor delivery device. The system can include a fluid flow controller and induction power regulation to maintain a specific operating pressure range for vapor within a uterus or other bodily cavity, tract, or duct.

Abstract

An inflation device includes a balloon and a shaft coupled to one another via an overmold that includes a shut-off ridge. The shaft is in pressure communication with the balloon. Therefore, when fluid pressure is increased in the shaft the balloon may inflate. The use of shut-offs to form the overmold including shaping the shut-off ridge should result in an overmold with no flash and few or no bubbles within its structure.
