Abstract

The invention relates to a life jacket or rescue vest comprising a U-shaped base body (1) which can put around the neck of a wearer when in use and its two sides (2, 3) lie on the chest of a wearer. The base body (1) is made of two congruent, airtight layers (11, 12) made of a textile material and is provided with a plastic covering on one side. Both layers (11, 12) are bonded together on the edge (6) and comprise at least one opening (7) on which a valve is connected to an air inlet or an air outlet. A gusset or an insert is introduced into each of the two sides (2, 3) between the two layers (11, 12), and the distance between the two layers (11, 12) increases when the life jacket is inflated, thus increasing the volume of air in the region of the free ends of the sides.
