Abstract

Methods and apparatus for controlling edge slump in newly formed concrete structures formed by a slip form paving machine. An edge height sensor generates an edge height signal corresponding to a height of an edge of the newly formed concrete structure to thereby detect a slumping of the edge of the newly formed concrete structure behind a slip form paver mold. A controller receives the edge height signal, determines whether any slumping of the edge of the newly formed concrete structure exceeds a set slump limit, and automatically controls an actuator assembly at least in part in response to the edge height signal to adjust the height of a lateral edge portion of a mold bottom plate relative to an interior portion of the mold bottom plate and thereby adjust the height of the edge of the newly formed concrete structure.

Abstract

A construction machine uses a controller configured to determine a cross-sectional profile of a design surface at a selected position and orientation of a milling drum of the construction machine. The controller automatically determines a preferred sensor sub-set from a plurality of possible sensor sub-sets selected from a set of available sensors. The preferred sensor sub-set must be usable to create at least a portion of the cross-sectional profile of the design surface. The controller automatically maintains or switches control of the milling depth to use the preferred sensor sub-set.

Abstract

A self-propelled construction machine for working the ground, in particular a stabilizer or recycler, has a controller for automatically reversing the direction of travel, which interacts with the drive device for the wheels or crawler tracks. The controller is configured such that the drive device, after receiving a travel direction reversal control signal, reduces the predefined first speed at which the construction machine travels in the first direction of travel until the construction machine is stationary, and, after the construction machine is stationary, drives the wheels or crawler tracks in the opposite direction, wherein the drive device increases the speed in the second direction of travel up to a predetermined second speed. Not only the drive device, but also other components of the construction machine, may be automatically controlled depending on different driving situations.

Abstract

A system is provided for determining a volume of material milled, or a surface area milled, by a construction machine having a milling drum. The volume of material milled is determined as a function of a cross-sectional area of material to be milled in front of the milling drum and a distance traveled by the construction machine while actively milling. The cross-sectional area is determined in part by direct machine observation of one or more profile characteristics of a ground surface in front of the milling drum. The surface area milled is determined as a function of the width of the area to be milled in front of the milling drum and a distance traveled by the construction machine while actively milling.

Abstract

A system of differential working is provided wherein a controller of a construction machine is provided with a working depth data set and with a design surface data set. A location of the construction machine within a reference system external to the construction machine is determined, for example using a global navigation satellite system. The controller may determine the desired working depth at the current locations of the ends of the working implement from the working depth data set. The controller may determine the desired cross-slope at the current location of the working implement from the design surface data set. The desired working depths and the desired cross-slope may be communicated to a grade control system of the controller.

Abstract

A self-propelled substrate milling machine includes a machine frame supported by front and rear left-hand and right-hand running gear units, wherein a milling drum is arranged on the machine frame. The substrate milling machine is characterized by a transverse inclination sensor system, which is designed to control the substrate milling machine in such a way that the position of the front left-hand and right-hand running gear units which stand on the unmachined substrate, is detected with respect to the machine frame, and transverse inclination values describing the transverse inclination of the substrate surface transverse to the working direction of the substrate milling machine with respect to the machine frame is determined from the position of these running gear units, said transverse inclination values being the basis for the control of the substrate milling machine. The transverse inclination sensor system detects the transverse inclination of the course of the route.

Abstract

A roller flap position correction mode can be activated manually or automatically. In the roller flap position correction mode, the position of the rear roller flap is optimised so that an accumulation of material is largely avoided. The control device of the roller flap adjustment device is designed in such a way that in the roller flap correction mode, the floating position of the rear roller flap is cancelled in a first step and the rear roller flap is pivoted upwards from a first pivoted position into a second pivoted position. In a second step, the floating position is set again, so that the rear roller flap assumes a third pivoted position in which the lower edge of the rear roller flap rests on the ground. After the floating position has been reset, a checking routine is carried out, which includes at least one checking cycle.

Abstract

The invention relates to a self-propelled construction machine, comprising a machine frame supported by a chassis having wheels or crawler tracks. The basic principle of the invention involves determining a variable Δ which is characteristic of the milling profile on the basis of a functional relationship between the variable which is characteristic of the milling profile and the advance speed v and/or milling drum rotational speed n. The variable Δ which is characteristic of the milling profile is a correction variable for adjusting the height of the milling drum with respect to the surface of the ground.
