Abstract

There is described an aseptic connector for connection to an identical opposing aseptic connector, the aseptic connector comprising: a housing having an inner surface which defines a cavity, the housing having a fluid passageway which passes through the inner surface and forms an opening into the cavity; a rotatable member rotatably mounted within the cavity of the housing and having a fluid passageway extending therethrough; wherein the rotatable member has a first, closed configuration in which the fluid passageway of the rotatable member is sealed by the inner surface of the housing and a second, open configuration in which the fluid passageway of the rotatable member is aligned with the fluid passageway of the housing and extends to the fluid passageway of the housing of the opposing aseptic connector so as to form a continuous fluid pathway across the aseptic connectors.

Abstract

There is provided a method of joining thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) tubes, comprising: abutting an end surface of a first TPE tube against an end surface of a second TPE tube; providing a TPE sleeve around the first and second tubes such that it overlaps the end surfaces; providing a compression member around the sleeve which is configured to apply a radial force around a circumference of the sleeve; and fusing the first and second tubes and the sleeve to one another by applying heat to the sleeve while applying a radial force to the sleeve using the compression member.

Abstract

A peristaltic pump includes a rotor and a track assembly. The track assembly is spaced from the rotor to receive n tubes therebetween, where n=2m with m a positive integer ≥2. The tubes are manifolded to one another at a discharge port. One of the rotor and the track includes an occlusion surface for each of the n tubes. The occlusion surfaces are located at n different angular positions. The angular offset between the occlusion surfaces offsets pulsation associated with each tube so as to reduce overall pulsation at the discharge port.

Abstract

A peristaltic pump is provided comprising a drive unit, a pumphead comprising a pressing element. The pumphead is connectable to the drive unit such that, when connected, the pressing element is driveable by the drive unit to exert a peristaltic action on a tube arranged within the pumphead. The pumphead further comprises an optical sensor, wherein the optical sensor comprises an emitter and a receiver which are mounted on the drive unit and a reflector element mounted on the pumphead. The reflector element is arranged on the pumphead such that when the pumphead is connected to the drive unit, radiation emitted by the emitter is reflected by the reflector element towards the receiver.

Abstract

A peristaltic pump comprises a pump unit including a pump which receives a replaceable tube. The tube has a transponder, for example an RFID tag, which carries data relating to the tube, which can be read by a reader of the pump unit. On the basis of a comparison between the tube data on the RFID tag and control data held in a memory of the reader, the reader permits operation of the pump unit if the tube data is compatible with the control data, but prevents such operation if the tube data is incompatible with the control data, for example indicting that an incorrect tube has been fitted, or the tube is approaching the end of its predicted operational life.
