ANALYSIS, DESIGN AND PRODUCTION OF PRODUCTS COMPRISING SUPERELASTIC MATERIALS
A product (108) such as a medical device is manufactured using a superelastic material. A computer simulates performance of the object using predefined mathematical models. An object model describes the geometry of the object in a form suitable for numerical analysis. The object is made of only one (superelastic) material, but the numerical analysis is performed using the object model together with two different material models. The object model is partitioned such that a first material model (MT) is used to simulate the material behaviour for elements subject to superelastic tension and a second material model (MC) is used to simulate the material behaviour in parts of the object subject to superelastic compression. Compared with known models, the partitioned model is more accurate over the range of tensile and compressive conditions. The model can be used in an iterative design process to achieve a product meeting desired performance specifications.

The apparatus has a delivery shaft 30 bearing a tubular device constrained within a moveable sheath 36, and a handle comprising a hollow shaft 124 with a static grip 126 and a grip slider 122 movable proximally or distally. The grip slider is connected to a slider block 24 fixed to a sheath hub 6 to which the sheath is fastened. A retraction wheel 120 has a spool 2 for winding a retraction wire 121 connected to a retraction block 20 in contact with the slider block enabling the slider block to be pushed as the retraction block is retracted distally. Initial incremental movement of the retraction block by winding of the retraction wire, moves the slider block and retraction block simultaneously. Subsequently the slider block is movable independently of the retraction block using the grip slider, leaving the retraction block behind.

A main graft (2) for a modular fenestrated assembly (1) consists of a graft sleeve having first and second ends (9 A, 9B), with a lumen extending therethrough, and bifurcated at a junction (6) to form two docking zones (8A, 8B), such that the lumen of the graft sleeve is divided into two smaller lumens after the bifurcation junction (6). The main graft (2) includes ring stents (7) located at end (9A) and on each docking zone (8A, 8B) at end (9B). The stents (7) may be attached to the graft sleeve by sewing. Leg grafts (3, 4) are sealingly engageable with either docking zone (8A, 8B) in zone (20), for example by expansion of a stent (7) at respective first ends (10A) of the first and second leg grafts (3, 4). A fenestration (5) is provided in either leg graft (3, 4).
A prosthesis (1) has a graft sleeve having a first and second ends (9A, 9B) with a lumen therethrough, a main body portion (2) bifurcated at a junction (6) to form a first leg (3) and a second leg (4) such that the lumen of the graft sleeve in main body portion (2) is divided into two smaller lumens. The body portion (2) has two ring stents (7), first leg (3) and second leg (4) each have ring stents (7) which maintain the patency of legs (3, 4) and assist bending of the leg graft without kinking to accommodate the patient's anatomy. The first leg (3) and second leg (4) each include a fenestration (5) in the fabric material forming each leg. Corrugations in first leg (3) and/or second leg (4) allow a degree of twisting to accommodate angular adjustment of the fenestration position.
A stent graft prosthesis includes spaced stent elements for location on a tubular graft. First and second stent elements are located in first and second locations on the graft. The second stent element includes a saddle shaped stent. The first stent element includes a ring shaped stent. Optionally a third stent element is also present. The tubular graft includes a graft sleeve. The prosthesis can be used for treatment of vascular disorders such as aortic aneurysm.
A61F 2/89 - Stents in a form characterised by wire-like elementsStents in a form characterised by a net-like or mesh-like structure the wire-like elements comprising two or more adjacent rings flexibly connected by separate members
There is provided a stent element comprising a central portion with two arms extending therefrom, optionally in a V-shaped or Y-shaped configuration. The arms of the stent-element are resiliently deformable to facilitate packing and suitable material for forming the stent-element is nitinol or PEEK. The stent element can be used to stabilise two adjacent ring stents on a stent graft by attachment to the graft material between the ring stents, for example by sewing. The stent element stabilises the ring stent without risk of fracture. A stent graft having two ring stents and the stent element located between the ring stents is also described.
