Abstract

Described is a new partial power converter (PPC) for the DC-DC stage of rapid-charging stations for electric vehicles (EV). The proposed converter manages only a fraction of the total power delivered from the grid to the battery, which increases the general efficiency of the system and the power density while potentially reducing the cost of the charger. The proposed topology is based on a switched capacitor between the AC terminals of a bridge converter H and does not require high-frequency isolation transformers in order to provide a source of controllable voltage between the CC link and the battery. The proposed concept can be implemented by using interposed power cells, which can improve energy quality, reduce the size of the inductor, and allow scalability for chargers of higher nominal power.

Abstract

The invention relates to a solid fuel combustion system and method that use an inert porous medium in the combustion process. The system comprises: a combustion chamber containing solid fuel, the solid fuel being subjected to a combustion process inside the chamber, generating combustion gases; an inert porous medium disposed inside the combustion chamber, the porous medium being near the solid fuel; and flow control means disposed in the combustion chamber. The flow control means are disposed to control the operation of: at least one air inlet in the combustion chamber, for injecting intake air into the combustion chamber; and at least one exhaust gas outlet in the combustion chamber, for releasing exhaust gases from the combustion chamber. The flow control means generate a flow of intake air and combustion gases between the at least one air inlet and the at least one exhaust gas outlet, forming a premixture of intake air and combustion gases inside the chamber. The flow control means and inert porous medium circulate the premixture through the inert porous medium, particularly through the pores of the inert porous medium, causing the preheating of the intake air and the acceleration of the reaction of the combustion gases inside the pores, burning the premixture in the interior of the pores of the inert porous medium.

Abstract

Flexible molds have an elastic membrane supported by modules, arranged next to one another along a horizontal longitudinal axis of the mold. Each module has traction units, each forming a respective group with a respective thrust unit, with the groups arranged opposite one another at a preset distance. Pairs of traction units are arranged opposite one another in a direction perpendicular to the axis, and the respective thrust units thereof are arranged therebetween. The modules hold the membrane with the mold via reinforced eyelets distributed on both edges parallel to the axis. Each traction unit has linear actuators arranged horizontally and another linear actuator arranged vertically, which together enable movement. The membrane is previously deformed according to an approximation of the prior design of a part to be molded, and prestressed according to a mathematical prediction of the deformation thereof after receiving a conglomerate in liquid or plastic state.

Abstract

The present invention concerns, but is not limited to, the field of hydrometallurgical processes for extracting materials, specifically the field of solvent extraction. The invention provides a system for measuring the level of two non-disperse immiscible liquids in solvent extraction processes, which is characterised in that it comprises a float designed to be placed in the interface of the mixture; an acoustic wave emitter–receiver device for detecting the position of the float; and a control device operatively configured to obtain variables of interest, wherein the float comprises a closed container that contains weights, to which is coupled a rod that connects the container to a plate. The purpose of the weights in the closed container is to vary the density of the float and thereby allow floatability. According to the detailed description, it is possible to obtain an automated system that allows the interface level to be measured in line, in an organic–aqueous mixture for solvent extraction processes.

The proposed concept can be implemented by using interposed power cells, which can improve energy quality, reduce the size of the inductor and allow scalability for chargers of higher nominal power.

Abstract

A method for measuring the potency of the biological effect of molecules that interact with the particles in a colloid comprising obtaining a test sample and a molecule control sample. The test sample contains molecules dissolved in a colloid, and the molecule control sample contains molecules dissolved in a particle-free solution extracted from the same colloid, in other words, molecules dissolved in the continuous phase of the colloid. The final characteristics of each sample allow all the molecules contained in the colloid to be differentiated from a population of molecules that do not interact with the colloid particles. Moreover, the method comprises the production of functional samples by way of the addition of viable cells to the test sample and to the molecule control sample and measurement of the potency of the biological effect exerted by the populations of molecules found in the two samples. The potency of the biological effect is evaluated by measuring the change induced in a specific biological parameter after exposure of the viable cells to the test sample and to the molecule control sample, The potency of each sample is expressed as a value representing the change in a biological parameter. The potency of the molecules that interact with the particles dispersed in the functional test sample is calculated from the difference between the potency value obtained for the functional test sample and the potency value obtained for the functional molecule control sample.
