Abstract

A building trim system includes one or more trim members and one or more second magnetically attractive members. The magnetically attractive members are secured to a building structure, usually outside building siding. The trim members include a rear side with first magnetically attractive members attractive to the second magnetically attractive members. The trim members are attached to the building structure via magnetic forces of attraction between the first magnetically attractive members and second magnetically attractive members. The first magnetically attractive members may be magnets and the second magnetically attractive members may be pieces of metal or vice versa.

Abstract

A trim piece for attachment to either an outside or an inside corner of a building for subsequently receiving and hiding the ends of a frieze board or siding panels, thereby providing a neat, smooth corner transition. Two inner flat surfaces converge at right angles to form a primary inner corner for abutting conformance with the building corner, and two outer trim elements defining respective two outer flat decorative surfaces converge at right angles to form an outer corner. Two mounting flanges extend in parallel with the respective inner flat surfaces, and are spaced parallel to and extend laterally beyond a respective outer trim element. The flanges and outer trim elements form a pair of vertical slots for receiving a frieze board or at least one siding panel.

Abstract

A trim element such as a door pilaster or frieze board, for attachment to a building wall, having front and back longitudinal faces, first and second longitudinal edges, and a longitudinal groove in the first edge. A mounting bracket for the wall has a forward strip that extends laterally and is selectively friction fit into the groove, a back strip that extends laterally on the back face of the element, and a connecting web between the forward and back strip that is flush with the first edge when the forward strip is fully inserted in the groove. A mounting flange for the wall extends laterally from the back face of the element, beyond the second longitudinal edge, and has a longitudinal channel along the second edge with a width that is effective to receive an edge of wall siding.

Abstract

A method of affixing a frame around a wall penetration such as a window box before siding panels are affixed to the wall. The frame has front and back faces and inner and outer edges, a primary channel extending along the outer edge, and a flange extending along the outer edge, The steps include: placing the window frame around the window box; affixing the flange to the wall; placing a first panel against the wall and inserting a vertical edge of the first panel into a primary channel of the frame; affixing the first panel to the wall; inserting a vertical edge of a second panel into the primary channel and engaging a longitudinal edge of the second panel with a longitudinal edge of the first panel; affixing the second panel to the wall; and repeating steps until the all sides of the frame engage siding panels.

Abstract

A prefabricated mantle unit has a base (36, 40) and a top plate (44) extending forwardly from the top of the base. A decorative strip (56) is oriented obliquely between the front of the top plate and the bottom of the base, with the lower edge (48) of the strip and the bottom (54) of the base forming a lower channel (50). The top element (16) of the surround (12) and the nailing flange (28) of the window box project above the top edge (24) of the window box, forming a box channel (26). The upward projection (22) of the top element is received within the lower channel (50) of the mantle unit, and a downward projecting portion (54) of the mantle base is received within the box channel (26).

Abstract

A prefabricated corner post (10) and associated method for attachment to an external corner (106) on a building (100). An angled body (12) has adjacent panels (14, 16) that form an inner corner (18) having inner flat surfaces (20, 22) adapted to closely engage the building corner (106), and an outer corner (24) forming an outer flat surface (26) that extends to side edges (28, 30). A nailing flange (32, 34) extends from the inner flat surface of each panel beyond a respective side edge of the outer surface. A trim piece (36) closely conforms to and is slidable vertically along the outer surface between an installation position (38) and a final position (40). Each panel of the body has a through hole (42) from the outer to the inner surface at the final position of the trim piece. In the installation position of the trim piece the through holes are exposed for receiving screws to secure the body directly to the building walls, and thereafter the trim piece can be slid to the final position to cover the holes and screws.

Abstract

A window frame surrounds a window box in a wall having horizontally extending siding elements that are connected along overlapping horizontal seams and unconnected edges that are juxtaposed with the window box. The window box has top, bottom, and opposed side elements connected together to define a rectangle, wherein the top element has a transverse outer edge. The window frame has top, bottom, and opposed side frame elements connected together to define a rectangular frame, each element having front and back faces and inner and outer edges whereby the back faces of the window frame elements cover the unconnected edges of the siding and the inner edges of the frame elements closely surround the elements of the window box. A rigid strip is attached to the inner edge of the top element of the window frame and projects over and is vertically supported by the outer edge of the top element of the window box. A “J” hook is attached to the back of each side element of the window frame for engaging a seam in the siding.

Abstract

A window frame comprising top, bottom, and opposed side frame elements connected together to define a rectangular frame, each element having front and back faces and inner and outer edges whereby the outer edges define the frame perimeter. An inner channel extends along the outer edges of at least the side elements, closer to the back face than to the front face. The frame optionally has another channel extending along the outer edges of at least the side elements, closer to the front face than to the back face. Mounting strips are located in the inner channels, having outer edges outside the perimeter of the frame, forming a flange for mounting the frame to a wall surrounding the window to be framed.
