Embodiments of the invention provide a fire-extinguishing system and method for injecting foamant into a stream of water. The system can include a flow meter determining a flow rate of the stream of water and a foam pump having an inlet coupled to a supply of foamant and an outlet coupled to the stream of water. The system includes a servo motor driving the foam pump. The servo motor includes a sensor used to determine a rotor shaft speed and/or a rotor shaft torque.
Embodiments of the invention provide a pump including an inlet port, an outlet port, a pumping chamber, and a porting system. The porting system includes an inlet utbe including a trap in which a first volume of fluid can be collected. The porting system includes a reservoir with a first chamber and a second chamber separated by a partial port wall. The second chamber receives fluid directed over the partial port wall from the pumping chamber. The reservoir collects a second volume of fluid substantially equal to the first volume of fluid. The first volume of fluid and second volume of fluid provide enough fluid trapped inside the pump to allow the pump to temporarily operate when substantially no fluid is flowing into the inlet port.
Embodiments of the invention provide a fill valve for use in a livewell of a boat. The fill valve includes an intake and a valve housing coupled to the intake. The valve housing includes a rounded half-sphere shaped front wall coupled to a substantially flat back wall. The front wall includes one or more inlet openings in fluid communication with the intake. The fill valve also includes a valve switch positioned in the valve housing to switch between a first position allowing fluid communication between the inlet openings and the intake and a second position providing a substantially liquid-tight seal between the inlet openings and the intake.
Embodiments of the invention provide a variable frequency drive system and a method of controlling a pump driven by a motor with the pump in fluid communication with a fluid system. The drive system and method can provide one or more of the following: a sleep mode, pipe break detection, a line fill mode, an automatic start mode, dry run protection, an electromagnetic interference filter compatible with a ground fault circuit interrupter, two-wire and three-wire and three-phase motor compatibility, a simple start-up process, automatic password protection, a pump out mode, digital input/output terminals, and removable input and output power terminal blocks.

Described herein is technology for, among other things, controlling a pump submersed in a liquid, where the pump includes a plurality of capacitive sensors. The capacitive sensors include a first capacitive sensor and a second capacitive sensor disposed above the first capacitive sensor. The technology involves sensing liquid levels with the capacitive sensors, activating the pump after the second capacitive sensor detects the liquid in a normal mode of operation, deactivating the pump after the first capacitive sensor no longer detects the liquid in the normal mode of operation, detecting a failure of one or more capacitive sensors, and adjusting the operation of the pump to compensate for the failure of the one or more capacitive sensors.

A filter casing can house the filter cartridge and can be provided with an automatic shut-off valve actuable by the filter cartridge. The filter cartridge can include an integral check valve at its upstream end to prevent unwanted spillage of fluid from the filter cartridge when removed from the assembled position. A filter mount can selectively keep the faucet and the filter cartridge from being separated. A lock ring can be rotatable through an angle about a filter axis to selectively allow removal of the filter cartridge from the filter casing. The rotation of the lock ring can be through a small angle and the removal of the filter cartridge from the filter casing can be completed without rotation of the faucet, the filter cartridge, or the filter casing.
