The mandrel is insertable into the fabric-receiving channel with an edge portion of the fabric sign wrapped around the mandrel. The mandrel has an outboard rib at each end and a pair of medial ribs inboard of the outboard ribs, so that the mandrel defines outboard recesses and a medial recess along at least one of the mandrel's sides. The recesses receive respective fabric-engaging projections that extend into the fabric-receiving channel from the leg.
