Abstract
The refrigerant R502 has largely been replaced with the hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) R404A and R507. However R404A and R507, while being excellent refrigerants in terms of energy efficiency, non-flammability, low toxicity and thermodynamic properties, have Global Warming Potentials (GWPs) which are at the high end of the commonly used HFCs. Disclosed are non-ozone depleting and non-flammable refrigerant compositions with Global Warming Potentials between 1,000 and 1600 on an Integrated Time Horizon, which may replace R404A and R507 in refrigeration systems. The refrigerant composition comprises R125 at 20-35%, R32 at 20-35%, R1234ze(E) at 25-50%, and R227ea at 1-10%. The percentages are by weight and are selected from the ranges quoted to total 100%.
