Abstract

An enclosure formed around a volumetric space in three dimensions affixed shells via blind sliders is disclosed. The space may be formed from a plurality of panels around at least a portion of the volumetric structure. The method and system provide a releasable enclosure around the structure or a rack or the like formed by attaching a plurality of shell components which nest in a sequential pattern over the structure via the blind latching assemblies formed on the interior wall surface of shell components to blind catching assemblies attached to the structure and wherein the latch and catch assemblies releasably affix the enclosure shells to the structure and together without the use of threaded fasteners; and, wherein the shells components are nested and evenly disperse force along the perimeter edges where the shells overlap.

Abstract

The present disclosure provides mounting plates having a mounting portion adjacent to a plurality of fastening regions and a flexing portion adjacent to a mounting feature. The fastening regions can be connected to a frame system. The mounting feature can be connected to an end of a pressurized tank. The end of the pressurized tank can move relative to the frame system and the mounting plate can flex such that the flexing portion moves out of the plane of the fastening region to accommodate the motion of the end of the pressurized tank. Connection to the end of the pressurized tank can be provided at a tank collar than can be bonded or threadably connected to the mounting plate via a connection mechanism. The connection mechanism can be an expandable plug or a sleeve that connects to the tank collar.

Abstract

Gas containment vessels are provided that are comprised of an inner corrosion resistant shell made of lower strength steel alloy or aluminum alloy or thermoplastic polymer, and an outer concentric shell constructed of high strength, albeit lower corrosion resistant, metal or fiber-reinforced composite. The fiber can comprise filaments derived from basaltic rocks, the filaments having been immersed in a thermosetting or thermoplastic polymer matrix, and commingled with carbon, glass or aramid fibers such that there is load sharing between the basaltic fibers and carbon, glass or aramid fibers.

Abstract

Devices and methods for addressing permeation of a gas through a liner of a pressure vessel involve a porous layer between the liner and a composite shell of the pressure vessel around the liner. The porous layer provides fluid communication with atmosphere for gases that permeate through the liner. Such porous layers may be provided in a continuous wound set of fibers about the liner. Further, an inner composite structure may be provided between the liner and the porous layer to reduce the rate of permeation to the porous layer.

Abstract

A fuel holding device is secured to a vehicle by means of straps and brackets, which sits on a system of gaskets to prevent longitudinal sliding and rotation. A gasket system for preventing longitudinal sliding is disposed circumferentially around the tank body, and between the tank body and a circumferential bracket system that includes a U-shaped strap and an L-shaped bracket. The gasket system comprises a wedge-shaped base and a slider portion, with the U-shaped strap secured around the slider portion. A system for preventing rotation of a fuel-holding device has a circumferential wedge gasket segment, or a corrugated segment, positioned at a gap between the U-shaped strap and the L-shaped bracket.

The fiber can comprise filaments derived from basaltic rocks, the filaments having been immersed in a thermosetting or thermoplastic polymer matrix, and comingled with carbon, glass or aramid fibers such that there is load sharing between the basaltic fibers and carbon, glass or aramid fibers.

Abstract

The present disclosure provides an alternative, cost-effective safety feature for on-board hydrogen storage containers incorporating a fill cycle sensor with a driver warning and shutdown system. The system monitors the number of times a hydrogen container is filled, and then takes action at a predetermined termination point. A controller monitors each time the hydrogen container is filled above 90% of the rated pressure or mass. Once the predetermined termination point of fill cycles is reached, the disclosed device/method will either disable the valve or refueling mechanism such that fuel supply to the vehicle is shutoff and the container cannot be filled again, essentially assuring the end of the life of the container.
