The described device demonstrates an apparatus and method for a collapsible wheeled walker or rollator that includes a pair of height adjustable armrests or supports. The armrests may be selectively articulated about hinge or pivot attached to a support tube. The articulating armrest may be locked into a stationary position via a locking pin for use as a typical standing rollator. Alternatively, the armrests are articulable about a hinge when the locking pin is removed, where a damper is interconnected between the hinge and a handle tube attached to the armrests to provide resistance to the movement of the armrests allowing a user to exercise arm muscles while using the wheeled walker. As such the disclosed device operates as both a wheeled walker and an exercise mechanism for the user's arms and upper body.

The disclosure demonstrates a collapsible wheeled walker having two side frames supported above a walking surface with attached wheel assemblies. The side frames are interconnected by an X-folder apparatus. The X-folder apparatus has first and second elongate elements rotatably coupled to each other with the bottom ends of the elements rotatably attached to the bottoms of the side frames, and the top ends of the elements having perpendicular support elements that in the deployed open position, engage support brackets formed on the inner sides of the side frames. The support brackets have protrusions extending from bracket support surfaces to engage complementary apertures formed in the perpendicular support elements to provide stability to the wheeled walker.

Abstract

A collapsible rollator including a frame having first and second side frames extending along respective ones of a pair of spaced generally parallel side planes. First and second forearm gutter upper body supports are coupled to and disposable at an adjustable height above the frame to give a user an upright walking posture for health benefits. The forward midpoint and the rearward midpoint on each forearm gutter fall between the pair of side planes. The apparatus may include wheel direction locks adapted to lock a wheel in fixed moving direction or to release the wheel to turn freely. The apparatus may include a seat that is slidably attached to the two side frames and is movable between a front position for walking inside the frames and a rear position sitting. The rollator includes an X-folder that facilitates collapsing the walker.
