Abstract

An apparatus for automatic leak detection, including a chamber to enclose a test specimen. A vacuum pump is in selectable fluid communication via an adiabatic noise cancellation valve with the chamber. A pressure transducer determines a pressure in the test specimen and transmits a pressure signal to a controller. The controller is to control the adiabatic noise cancellation valve to cause the vacuum pump to draw a vacuum from a space between the test specimen and the chamber thereby creating an adiabatic noise cancelling condition in which a temperature of the test specimen is stabilized. The controller is to control a flow of a test gas into the test specimen, and to determine a pressure decay rate from the pressure signal. The controller is to determine if the test specimen meets a leak test specification based on the pressure decay rate under the adiabatic noise cancelling condition.

Abstract

An apparatus for automatic leak detection includes a fixture having a primary seal and a secondary seal. The fixture connects to a workpiece to enclose a test volume defined in the workpiece. The seals are to interface with the workpiece to at least partially enclose a buffer volume. An enclosure is to connect to the fixture to enclose a test portion of the workpiece to form a test chamber. The secondary seal separates the buffer volume from the test chamber. The test volume and the test chamber have a tracer gas pressure differential between them. A port in fluid communication with the buffer volume removes fixture leakage from the buffer volume. A detector detects the tracer gas in the test volume or the test chamber where the tracer gas pressure differential between the test volume and the test chamber urges workpiece leakage of the tracer gas to accumulate.

Abstract

A tool device for use with a motor vehicle tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) operable to send and receive signals to a TPMS tire pressure sensor and a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag positioned in a vehicle tire. In one example, the tool is operable to communicate with the RFID tag to receive information from the RFID tag through an ultra-high frequency communication module and send that received RFID tag information to the tire pressure sensor for storage on the tire pressure sensor. The tool may then retrieve the tire pressure sensor information and associated RFID tag information from the sensor and transmit that information to the motor vehicle on-board computer.

Abstract

A leak detection device and method for use in testing a wall with selective gas/liquid permeability. The wall is sealed inside a containment including an injection chamber and a test chamber. The injection chamber is in communication with an injection and pressurization source and the test chamber is in communication with a vacuum production device. A vaporized liquid detector is in communication with the test chamber operable to detect and/or measure a parameter related to a quantity of liquid vapor or a variation in the quantity of liquid vapor which is indicative of a leak condition through the wall.

Abstract

The invention relates to equipment, devices and methods for testing a calibrated leak or passage of pressurized gas from a tire. In one example, a test plug including a calibrated cross section orifice and a predetermined gas flow rate is connected to a tire. The test plug applies a pressure opening the tire valve member to release gas from the tire through the test plug. In one example, a TPMS sensor and a TPMS measurement tool are used to measure the decrease of air pressure in the tire through the test plug and determine if the TPMS sensor is operating properly. In one example, a plurality of test plugs with different gas flow rates are provided. A method for testing the calibrated leak using the test plug is further disclosed.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for detecting leakage of a hollow component, comprising the steps of sealing said hollow component (1, 31), in creating a pressure difference P1 and P2 between the interior of said hollow component and an adjacent compartment (2, 32) or an enclosure, in putting a tracer gas in one of the hollow component and said compartment or said enclosure, in waiting for an enriching time T and then carrying out a step of transferring, via a non-selective or selective restriction (6, 7; 49), the content of said hollow component or said compartment or said enclosure (2; 32) into which tracer gas has not been put, in order to concentrate, in a volume downstream of said restriction (6, 7; 49), the tracer gas that said content may possibly contain, and then in looking for the presence of tracer gas in said volume. The invention also relates to an installation for implementing the method.

Abstract

A system and method for resetting or reprogramming tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) tire sensor data in a vehicle control system or electronic control unit (ECU). The system and method uses a single TPMS relearning tool which (a) receives a first TPMS tire sensor data signals from the TPMS tire sensors, (b) initiates the vehicle control system to enter into a relearning or resetting mode, and (c) re-emits the first TPMS tire sensor data signal as a second TPMS tire sensor data signal to the vehicle control system to reset the vehicle control system to the present TPMS tire sensor data. In one example, the TPMS relearning tool decodes, stores in memory, encodes and transmits a second TPMS tire sensor data signal which simulates the first TPMS tire sensor data signal.
