The invention provides a method of manufacture of a catalyst, the catalyst as such and its use in olefin oligomerisationand. The method for making an oligomerisation catalyst includes the steps of mixing alumina, silica, metal oxide, a template source; and effecting the deactivation of the Bronsted sites by masking them with metal ions, preferably either (i) during synthesis by directly adding the metal as ion in a one-pot or direct synthesis, or (ii) after intermidiate conversion to the H+-form by in turn either (ii-a) impregnating the latter with a metal salt, or (ii-b) dry-mixing a metal salt with it.

Abstract

This invention relates to processes for removing particles such as catalyst fines from hydrocarbon streams, such as a wax dried from a Fischer Tropsch reaction using centrifugation in combination with a treatment with an aqueous solution preferably containing an acid, or with an acid. According to an aspect of the invention, catalyst particles are removed from a wax derived from a Fischer Tropsch by pre-treating the hydrocarbon stream with an aqueous solution and forming a mixture comprising the hydrocarbon stream and 5-25% v/v organic acid solution; and introducing the mixture to a centrifuge and separating, from the mixture, a hydrocarbon stream, an aqueous solution and particles. The process may be a continuous and/or a batch process.

Abstract

This invention relates to a process for the removal of catalyst particles from a hydrocarbon stream (14) derived from the reaction of synthesis gas (12) with a particulate Fischer Tropsch catalyst in a Fischer Tropsch reactor (10). The process includes a primary separation step (16) which makes use of a filter, wherein the filter has a pore size which is 70% to 95 of the average size of the particles of the Fischer Tropsch catalyst, thereby forming a primary filtered hydrocarbon stream (18) containing fine catalyst particles. The benefit of this selection of filter pore size is that it mitigates fines build-up on the filter of the primary separator. The primary filtered hydrocarbon stream(18) is then passed to a secondary separation step in a cross-flow filtration unit (20) which removes fine catalyst particles from the primary filtered hydrocarbon stream to provide a retenate (24) containing the catalyst fines, and permeate (22) containing a hydrocarbon product.

Abstract

This invention relates to alternative diesel fuels with improved cold flow properties. The alternative fuel may be a biodiesel which typically comprises fatty acid methyl or ethyi esters; or a diesel fuel blend including diesel fuel derived from a Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reaction and possibly comprising or containing crude-derived diesel fuel and biodiesel. The cold flow properties are improved by adding a higher alcohol component which is not a naturally occurring component of the biodiesel, nor the diesel fuel.
