Abstract

The present invention relates generally to a system and method for measuring the structural characteristics of an object. The object is subjected to an energy application processes and provides an objective, quantitative measurement of structural characteristics of an object. The system may include a device, for example, a percussion instrument, capable of being reproducibly placed against the object undergoing such measurement for reproducible positioning. The invention provides for a system and methods for analyzing measured characteristics utilizing machine learning to create a system for predicting pathologies from measurements.

The system includes features for adjusting the energy applied to an energy application tool to compensate for the physical characteristics or type of the object, and/or for orientation of the device relative to the horizontal during measurement. The system also includes a disposable feature or assembly for minimizing cross-contamination between tests. The structural characteristics as defined herein may include vibration damping capacities, acoustic damping capacities, structural integrity or structural stability.

IPC Classes  ?

  • G01N 3/317 - Investigating strength properties of solid materials by application of mechanical stress by applying a single impulsive force generated by electromagnetic means
  • A61B 5/05 - Detecting, measuring or recording for diagnosis by means of electric currents or magnetic fieldsMeasuring using microwaves or radio waves
  • A61C 7/06 - Extra-oral force transmitting means, i.e. means worn externally of the mouth and placing a member in the mouth under tension
  • G01L 5/18 - Apparatus for, or methods of, measuring force, work, mechanical power, or torque, specially adapted for specific purposes for measuring ratios of force
