Abstract
Method and apparatus for removing moisture from a fibre web. According to the invention, the fibre web is heated to a temperature of over 50 °C, after which it is brought to vacuum evaporation, in connection with which the temperature of the web is reduced to less than 20 °C. By means of vacuum drying, a significant saving in energy is achieved in paper and board manufacture. In addition to this, by means of pre-drying the printing base, i.e. paper or board, fluting is reduced in heatset-offset printing. At the same time, the "blistering" phenomenon is eliminated and the contrast and colour reproduction of the impression are improved.

Abstract
The invention relates to nanoparticles having a metallic core and a protective wrapping attached to the core, said protective wrapping being derived from aliphatic amines. Using said nanoparticles conductive layers or patterns can be produced on the surface of a substrate by providing onto the substrate a layer of the nanoparticles and by subjecting the layer of nanoparticles to heat and pressure in order to remove protective wrappings of the nanoparticles and to fuse the cores of the nanoparticles in order to form a conductive pattern. The nanoparticles posses advantageous properties with respect to processability and usability.

Abstract
Metal nanoparticles and methods for the production thereof. The novel nanoparticles having an average particle size of 1 to 10 nm and comprising at least one protective group bonded to metal, in particular copper particles, said group being derived from a monomeric thiol. They can be produced by reducing, in the presence of a reducing agent, dithioester monomers to the corresponding thiols while simultaneously reducing a copper precursor to the corresponding metal to yield amorphous or nanocrystalline copper nanoparticles. The novel metal nanoparticles can be used for producing semiconductive or conductive thin layers on a substrate.

Abstract
An aqueous dispersion comprising a non-settling colloidal hemicellulose ester polymer in water and a method of producing the same. In the method an esterified hemicellulose is provided wherein at least a part of the esterifying groups are derived from a lower alkanoic acid; the esterified hemicellulose is dissolved in an alkanoic acid to produce a solution; and the solution is dispersed into water to produce an aqueous dispersion of the hemicellulose ester. The present compositions, containing hemicellulose derivatives of low solubility, can be used in paper, paperboard and other fibre-based materials, for paints, surface treatments for polymer films, and polymer films as such, and can be applied as binders.

Abstract
A method of modifying the pulp which is used for manufacturing paper or cardboard. According to the method, the pulp is crosslinked chemically, after which it is used to produce paper or cardboard. According to the present invention, the crosslinlcing is carried out by using the dry method, and the crosslinked pulp is then refined to a chosen drainability. With the invention, it is possible to decrease the grammage of the products which are produced from the pulp, without degrading the properties of the products.

Abstract
The invention concerns a method for forming a conductive pattern on an insulating substrate and a related apparatus. In the method, particle-type conductive matter is transferred onto a surface of the substrate and the particle-type conductive matter is at least partially sintered at elevated temperature and pressure in order to convert the particle-formed pattern into a continuously conducting pattern affixed to the substrate. According to the invention, the conductive matter is transferred in the form of a predefined pattern, and the sintering is carried out by using a nip comprising two opposing nip members between which the substrate is fed. The method provides an efficient way of making high-resolution conductor structures at low temperatures.

Abstract
The invention relates to a method and devices for measuring the electrical properties of a planar base material, and a new use. In the method the surface potential of the base material (20) is altered locally, and the surface potential is measured with the aid of a measuring element (200), which is located in the vicinity of the surface of the base material (20). According to the invention, a measuring head, which comprises a measuring edge (29) and a sensor electrode (21) located at a distance from the measuring edge (29) and a counter electrode (23) located in turn at a distance from the sensor electrode (21), is used as the measuring element (200), the sensor electrode being at least partly surrounded with an insulator material (22) with a high permittivity. During measurement, the measuring edge (29) of the measuring head is arranged to be essentially in contact with the base material (20). With the aid of the invention the electrical non-homogeneity of paper, for example, can be detected more accurately, for example, during printing processes.

Abstract
A method of producing paper or cardboard using a bleached cellulosic pulp, which contains hemicelluloses. According to invention a significant portion, at least 5 wt-%, preferably about 8 to 30 wt-%, of the hemicelluloses are removed from the pulp. The hemicelluloses taken from one bleached pulp can then be transferred to another resulting in two pulps with varying properties, one pulp with properties related to low hemicelluloses content in the fiber wall and the other with properties related to high hemicelluloses content on the fiber surface.
